Didn't it have something to do with a change in their transmission area, which the logo represented?

Im sure it was said in the "HELP: Identify the correct year for Presentation" thread that it was down to someone at border not understanding the concept behide the logo

Not that I've noticed, but it's been brighter than the ITV logo all along.

No - they gained some of Granada's area serveral years earlier and then lost the Isle of Man to them but this was much later, after the move to Gateshead.

Picky it may be, but it always really annoyed me. Laughing As JAS84 rightly pointed out, the newer font is in use on the Hearts ident but the chevron is the 1996 "Channel 3" era one.

God, that's even worse than people complaining about the change in shape of the BBC "2".

Anyhow, a week or so in and though not spectacular I don't think the new ITV idents can be written off in the same way the 2006 idents were. For what they are and the style they've chosen they do the job pretty well, though it does seem they've already picked their favourites which seem to get more airings than the rest. I guess though if they have made 60 or so as reported it makes sense to hold probably around half of them back and then release them on to screen over the next year or so, ensuring they always have something new in the mix.

From talking to a friend who worked at YTV at the time, the variation was unintentional, and probably just down to a graphic designer who made a bit of a sloppy job of redrawing the chevron for the local version.

Thanks for that. Pretty odd that they seemed to redraw the logo with every new ident...
