Not seen the other channels on TV yet but the mothership idents do nothing for me. The beach one is nice enough I suppose but the logo doesn't stand out. The rest of the package is good - logo, breakbumpers and trails. The one junction I saw though has a split second of black between the end ITV said it has also responded to Equity's concerns, and has "a consistent style guide" designed so that credits "are legible onscreen".of the breakbumper and the trail. Wouldn't it be best to just blend into each other as they're both (almost) solid white backgrounds?

Not seen them yet, are the legible now they're just a quarter size? Don't know what was wrong with the old style, this new one has so much wasted space.

The announcer on ITV (1) tonight, wasn't he previously on ITV2?

Not sure, but Adam Catterall (northern announcer) on ITV4 was previously on ITV2

Really do not like the announcer at present. Too much like itv2 material for me. The daytime woman wasn't much better. And I used to moan about the previous ones!

Apart from Jim Davis who usually does Saturdays. Anyone know if he is still doing CA?

I don't understand the complaints about the logo not standing out - that's the whole bloody point! It blends in to the picture, which I imagine is supposed to suggest that ITV blends in to everyday life. It's great if you ask me.

Above all, ITV has gone for a logo that reflects their general entertainment output, rather than trying to have a generic/formal/BBC-copy.

Shame they couldn't have given it the same effect as on the 'Coronation Street' text.

Again, looks awful.

And using the ITV font instead of the usual one for writer/director credits is madness.

Two bad moves in this relaunch among many good ones.

I dont understand how anyone could have anything against it, at least it's consistent, unlike how the BBC dot it around their titles willy nilly.

The credits font is especially odd as Emmerdale has kept the same font but Corrie hasn't.

Yeah, it is. They could have done that or just replaced the brown glowing 'Coronation Street' with the all white one they use for the ad breaks, and then it would match the ITV logo.

With regional news, I suppose the regional programme name no longer being dominant, and the dropping of region-specific news brands and programme names was always going to happen, but I find it very odd that amongst a sea of 'ITV News + Region Name' programme titles, instead of 'ITV News Yorkshire' we have 'ITV News Calendar'. Calendar survives whilst everything else gets killed off? Weird, just weird.

There's a very good reason for that. "ITV News Yorkshire" would be completely inaccurate. The ex-YTV area covers a hell of a lot more than just Yorkshire - there's Lincolnshire, North Norfolk, parts of Nottinghamshire, etc. The Calendar brand solves all the problems in an instant.

I think it's a filter they used on the overall image rather than a text effect.

They seemed to manage the first 40 years alright being known as Yorkshire Television with a big Y for a logo.

I tried to ask this in the regular ITV thread, but it's now closed for some reason. Can somebody tell me why ITV never manage a smooth cut on HD when they switch to regional news? Whenever Granada Reports have their trailer in the middle of The Chase, the last second or so of the ITV trailer preceding it repeats. And at the end, Tony Morris is often cut off mid sentence. Surely, if this is an HD feed switching to an SD feed, the SD feed would be ahead of the HD feed? Why would it jump back? In fact, why does it jump at all? It makes what is a pleasent, fresh rebrand just that little bit, well... annoying.

It certainly wasn't loved outside Yorkshire, that's for sure! Laughing

The coverage area at launch in 1968 was just Yorkshire - in 1974 the ITA took away North Yorkshire and gave it to Tyne Tees, and reallocated the whole of Lincolnshire to YTV from Anglia. Awful move, but it came in handy that they had the fairly strong Calendar brand, instead of plain-old YTV News. The "Calendar" term could then be used to describe the entire transmission area in a way "YTV" could never have, and it often was. Many programmes targeted towards rural Lincolnshire placed heavy emphasis on "the Calendar region" and a lot actually utilised the name in programme titles.

Anyhoo...

To be fair even Micheal grade admitted that the old ITV area made no scene, and were only designed by the transmitters.

Most of lincolnshire could have been clamped on to Central east area.
