They have not "ditched safe areas". They have moved from 4:3 safe areas to 16:9 safe areas. No competant broadcaster ignores safe areas.
Finally, its great to see ITV hopefully leading a trend of ditching safe areas. It's always seemed a bit irrelevant since you can no longer buy a 4:3 TV, and presumably not many people have them anymore.

Didn't have any issues with Border weather. It looked fine.
Horrendous leaking of 'blue screen' around the weather presenter.

My TV aspect ratio must be set up wrong coz I couldn't see all of the 'itv'. Normally have no problems.
Your telly must be overscanning quite a lot.
I didn't even notice it, all I can see is the 'v'. I suspect that's due to RGB shift, my TV has always moved the image over to the left quite a bit when being fed RGB
Lifeboat ident at 6 and looked quite good!

Thats what I meant, I just didn't see the need to spell it out on a pres forum.
Very impressed with ITV News, it no longer looks light years behind the other main news broadcasters.

Yeah, because saying they've switched to 16:9 safe areas is so hard to do.
