Stand by my judgement of that. And if that's the range ITV show off, look at all those bright and vibrant colours of the scenes picked match the channel's logo!
National news look good, bit let down by local news not getting as much in the way of change, and the other channels pull the look off well - particularly ITV4's playfulness with the logo.
I;m starting to warm to the ident, from seeing some of them on YouTube, it was probably a bad idea showing the Pugwash first, which feels a little cheap and crap.
Well so far I have mixed feelings about the rebrand. Not liking the ITV idents, too bland, and can't associate them with anything to the channel. I love the promo style, and how they link to each other, very nice.
ITV2, not sure about their idents, fun, but still really just live action footage of people with a logo stuck on top, so nothing special.
ITV3, love it! I was worried about ITV3 as I loved their previous look, but they have done good work here, the idents are lovely, and love how all the glass jars are all seen at the end, and the glass effect logo works well.
ITV4, love the playfulness of the logo style, how it is different on each ident, but again, all live action, I can see them getting stale very quickly. I loved ITV4's previous idents, even though they didn't have many, I loved the fact the logo was the main feature of the idents. I think ITV4 should have continued with that style of making the logo more of a focus.
Don't want to comment on ITV News until I see the lunchtime programme, as just going of the little regional segments and a few pictures isn't enough to judge yet.
Loving the itv.com homepage, very nice.
Not keen on how they have done some logos like ITV Player, ITV Studios etc, literally just sticking the word after the ITV logo. At least the previous logos had a unique look, but still kept the same ITV logo in them. It just seems very lazy now. I know they will say it keeps everything unified, but does it need to be? With the previous ITV Player logo, they could just use the ITV bit and people would know what it was for.
Praise to ITV for getting everything updated on time, all the different ITV sites/pages with new looks/logos, all channels at the same time, signage around the UK etc, very good.
BSkyB don't control the channel names on the EPG. Why do people think they do, just because they have the most channels on that platform?
I'm pretty sure they do - it's Sky Platform Control who have to make the change.
I can confirm this is the case, Platform Control deal with it all. Both the Sky and Freesat use additional data streams for their EPGs rather than the standard DVB service information as sent out by the broadcasters. Its because of those streams you don't have to retune for changes, that they set the channel numbers and that you get 7 days rather than only now and next (DVB-SI does support 7 days as seen on Freeview, but isn't used for UK satellite).
As such the EPG won't change until Sky update things, same for Freesat and Virgin. It's only Freeview that uses the broadcaster data. You'll notice new year rebrands (such as this) usually happen a few weeks into Jan as most platform operators have platform freezes over the christmas period due to reduced staffing. If it was down to the broadcasters rather than the platform operators that wouldn't be an issue. Astra is completely independent of the whole process, they simply operate the satellites and sell the transponders, what broadcasters/platform operators use them for and how is up to them.
Not to mention that the On Demand service is a completely separate issue that is certainly controlled by Sky.
How come the channel that airs nothing but Frost and Midsummer Murder repeats has emerged with a look that's head and shoulders above everything else? I also really like itv4 - properly quirky (not dog in a sink quirky) and a good example of how to do "people idents" well. itv2 is very "meh" but still better than itv...which is just ugly.
