I doubt that. I reckon the changes at the heart of ITV1 (which I won't repeat here but I've documented on my site under Articles --> Crossroads Story as part of the wider topic of Crossroads on ITV) killed it. However, the revamp didn't help its cause either. I think it would have still been axed under David Liddiment albeit later on and not after just eight weeks.
This was actually criticised by the critics and so as being "too complex for daytime", which suggests that everybody who watches daytime telly is as thick as two short planks.
I'm all in favour of scrapping it completely, myself. It's on far too often for a start. Six times a week? Get real. There's still rumours going on that EastEnders wants to go five times a week from the powers that be and take Corrie on head-to-head yet the current Executive Producer Louise Berridge has said many a time that she wants to go back to three eps a week and also admitted that quite a few recent-ish episodes were made up as they went along as they can't cope!

And Crossroads, dear, sweet Crossroads. I bet ITV1 were kicking themselves when the ratings went up in the last 3 weeks due to the fantastic Flashback episodes, when the show was getting into it's stride.

Night and Day was not on at the right time for who it was aimed at and so that is why it failed.

I feel Emmerdale could be facing a similar fate as it seems to have lost something lately, and with the additional sixth episode I fear the plots will be stretched even thinner over the week which could lead to a huge loss in viewership. It needs a Corrie-style kick up the backside if you ask me.

I just think ITV1 is so tacky these days. Weirdly enough, I prefer CiTV to CBBC, but BBC to ITV1.
ITV1 need to stop having so many soaps, murder drama's and re-makes / copys of USA shows. Didn't they learn from this with That 70s Show remake they had.. "Days Like These".

True itv do have many tacky programmes, but they do it to get viewers, just as this bandwagon of holiday showdown and take my mother in law. They should be aiming at quality documentaries based more around the news. The drama that they produce is top class, and it usually always gets viewers.
They have tried to create new long running dramas, but have failed with some attempts.
Only ONE mistake in your post, DAY'S LIKE THESE was a Brittish written and produced comedy. An American network picked up the scripts and created their own version 'That 70's Show', which has proven more popular than the original Brittish show.

Actually, Days Like These were made in 1999, That 70s Show started in 1998. Alot of people have said that Days Like These was a show that got the rights to That 70s Show and only slightly changed the scripts.

Are you sure? I knew That 70's Show was 1998, didnt it first air in the US in late Aug 98? I thought that Days Like These were made before 1999.
Interesting to read on teletext that itv have signed up Dave Spikey to produce his own comedy creation (without Peter Kay) called 'Dead Man Weds' (after a headline he saw in a newspaper about a man marrying his lover after paramedics bought him back from the dead). He started to write the comedy in 1994 & it goes into production next April.

Sounds interesting, as Dave Spikey is very funny. But it's fascinating that he's got a show on ITV, lets hope it goes well. But is he doing anything for this new spin off show of Peter Kay, called Max and Paddy, considering we assume that none of the Phoenix Nights characters are in it, except for Max and Paddy, but we're going to have to wait a while for this.

Hmm. Interesting. Perhaps Peter Kay is going to write solo with Max & Paddy. Thus why Dave Spikey is now getting back to this project. I presume itv heard about it, seen his success as a stand up and on writing on phoenix nights that they gave him a deal. Comedy is what itv really needs at the moment.

Yes, well let's hope that with this Dave Spikey thing and the series that Vic Reeves, Bob Mortimer & Steve Coogan have signed up for it's a sign of an investment in comedy on ITV1.
Especially when added to Harry Hill, The Sketch Show, Frank Skinner & 2DTV. Question is, just when is 2DTV coming back ?

To be honest I do hope that Dave Spikey is helping with Max and Paddy, as half of the jokes belong to him really, though Peter Kay is funny, the show needs that bit extra. Though if you notice, Dave Spikey (reading a Minder anual) and Patrick McGuiness both appear on the Top of The Tower DVD, which technically is Peter Kay only.
OT; Has anyone else seen Live at the Bolton Albert Halls yet? As it is extremely funny. Best £15.99 I've spent for a while.
