Yes, IRN is part of ITN

If the long term game plan was to move into radio they wouldn't have sold Border's stations to Capital when it was bought by Granada

No, IRN is not owned by ITV plc.

Nor is it owned by ITN - they are merely contracted to provide the news service.

ITN is 40% owned by ITV plc.

I think ITN does have a shareholding in IRN though, which - AIUI - is jointly owned by a number of radio groups, including Capital, and (I think) GWR.

They would need to change the name, you carn't have ITV Radio because it stands for Independant TeleVision Radio. It doesn't make sense

Depends how they do the branding.

ITV doesn't have to stand for anything anymore. BHS doesn't stand for British Home Stores, KFC doesn't stand for Kentucky Fried Chicken - they've rebranded and are now just known as BHS and KFC.

SO ITV Radio could make sense!

Yes it does.

No it doesn't! The company is called the KFC Food Corporation and there is no mention of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Sure, they may sell something called Kentucky Fried Chicken (I wouldn't know, wouldn't touch the place with a barge-pole!) but that's not the name of the company!

Have a look at this page of their website

BHS is still called Britsh Home Stores, its like saying M&S is now what Marks is called. Laughing It is just short names for the shops but there real name is still copyright to them.

Actually BHS isn't British Home Stores. IIRC in the late 90s as part of a rebranding exercise they did change their registered trademark to 'Bhs'. And Moz - indeed you are correct about KFC. Sorry for doubting you Smile

Why not rename ITV to IMB? (Independent Media Broadcasting)
