You can see they're really determined to keep Emmerdale on air! Those additional 6 episodes twice a week will keep things going until the end of June, when I'm guessing they're hoping more large scale production will be up and running.

Such a shame - I was looking forward to them announcing that it was the end of series 1 and series 2 would be starting soon... Very Happy

Emmerdale had loads of series considering it took breaks of varying lengths between 1975 and 1985 Razz

Digitalspy claim they'll be back up to 3 a week after the 6 lockdown episodes:

Walks with Julia Bradbury is replacing the Friday Emmerdale for 3 weeks.

I wonder if Birds might be a bit risqué for 7pm, what with half the script being suggestive about Dorian’s bedroom antics.

No more risque than Emmerdale, though yes, it seems more of an 8pm hour show rather than 7pm. I guess the last comedy commissioned for a 7pm slot though was probably Barbara, and I think that aired on Sundays before Emmerdale took that 7pm slot as well.

Obviously this will be under review for the show as well but I do wonder if they might add some more lockdown specials if they can't go ahead with filming in a suitable manner in time - there are certainly 3 or 4 other character combinations they could add.

There's probably no reason to extend it past eight episodes. If it does get to that point and they still can't resume proper filming, then Corrie will be out of episodes too (it had 12 eps more than Emmerdale remaining - four weeks worth) and will also need to adopt the lockdown format. But it looks like they can get back to business imminently, albeit with distancing in place.

No need for Digital Spy to be referenced, this was the tweet that explained it all from the horses mouth

I assume Emmerdale had a fairly big week planned around BGT too. I think Corrie was focusing on the Gary Windass nonsense, so that's no loss.

Neighbours of course keeps gloating that they've shown the way in production but we're yet to see that product on screen, and I think as they film quite a way in advance probably a way off too - so we don't really know if it has worked yet. I do think Emmerdale has done exactly the right thing though with these episodes to bridge the gap storyline wise - long term it'll put it in peoples minds that Emmerdale experienced this as well and short term it makes it easier for them to film scenes if Emmerdale is also a world where social distancing exists.

The abrupt change from next Friday’s episode to next Monday will be the oddest thing, and I’m wondering if they try to bridge it in some way.

As well as storylines that will just stop dead, a cliffhanger that isn’t resolved, on Friday you’ll no doubt have full scenes in the Wooly, the cafe, and then on Monday it’s just Cain and Aaron in their house.

I wonder how much, if any, of any footage shot for uncompleted episodes will get used after the 6 lockdown editions?

Considering they often do special weeks, and this is effectively that played out over three weeks, I think they'll get away with it - and presumably viewers will be a bit more forgiving. They may also edit the final episode to be less of a cliff hanger than it would otherwise.

In reality too for us in life although we had a bit of warning and that weird week where they told us not to go out but not officially life did stop dead - we went from pubs and cafes being open to nothing being open. So Emmerdale will be basically doing that, though I do think these Lockdown episodes will likely be more reflecting on the last few weeks rather than picking up the morning after the last episode.

Yeah, as I said when they first cut the number of episodes and stopped filming, I'd expect a timeskip. It's still April in Emmerdale (Wednesday's episode was meant to air on 24th April), but in the lockdown episodes, it'll suddenly be June, i.e. they'll catch up with the present.

I expect the lockdown episodes will just have a very different feel to them, like a spin off type series that is shown at the same time as the usual episodes. Although obviously in this case it will be replacing the usual episodes.

I wonder if they are going to get episodes in the can and ready to air in early July when these lockdown specials end. Assuming they filmed the lockdown episodes last week and this week can we expect them to film episodes for early July next week and how is it going to work as social distancing still needs to happen in the work place.

Emmerdale is probably the luckiest of the lot in terms of outdoor space - may be alot of farming stories once again. Wink

Fewer characters in scenes and probably in episodes to keep thing simple I'd guess - might be three pairs of characters for example. Not sure what Emmerdale has workplace wise now other than the pub/cafe/garage - did they replace the factory after the fire?

Yes they replaced the factory with that outdoor adventure place and the offices where Jai and Priya work are in the rebuilt factory.

I don't think Emmerdale usually do a special week for when BGT is on - its usually just normal Emmerdale at 7pm and then Corrie at 9pm. Both lose an episode that week so 6 a week cant be that important! Emmerdale usually have their 'big' week in October, they call it 'super soap week' Rolling Eyes BGT week of Corrie is no loss as you say Smile
