I'm not sure it matters when it was axed. They've announced the cancellation now. It was probably on the 'rest' list like Family Fortunes, Through the Keyhole, The Cube, Big Star's Little Star, Ninja Warrior, X Factor etc.

But dating shows in this era of Love Island don't really work anymore so they've killed it.

Big Star’s Little Star was another show that had its last series sat on the shelf for an eternity before it aired, over a year I believe.

Seems to be a thing at ITV, Rolling in It was filmed last April but apparently isn’t airing until Q3. The last series of civilian Catchphrase was sat there for about 18 months. Looks like that might be another one on the ‘rest’ list, they haven’t filmed any new ones since November 2017. Only seems to be celebrity episodes now.

There does seem to be a bit of a shake up going on at ITV entertainment though. They’ve got more new formats than they’ve launched in a while this year (The Masked Singer, John Bishop at The Weekend, Beat The Chasers, Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow, Rolling in It) and seem to be actively looking for the Autumn. Naturally that means they need to make room so some of the old shows have gone. The only surprising one, if it is gone, is Ninja Warrior as the ratings were still pretty good, it’s different to their other shows and they’re opening all those parks. Seems a bit of a waste if that one doesn’t come back. But it was the right call to lose the others.

Speaking of Family Fortunes, it’s probably about time for a reboot. It’s been off air for five years now. With a new host of course, Vernon Kay hasn’t been seen on ITV since the ill fated Drive in 2016 and seems to have fallen from grace.

I'd have thought Ninja Warrior had better male demos than most their weekend shows too which would usually be a tick in it's favour. Is the sort of show that could be rested a year though before returning.

Will be interesting to see how the likes of Take Your Pick and Strike it Lucky do on Epic Gameshow - I suspect the latter is still too associated with Barrymore to have a chance really, and of course "Top, Middle or Bottom" now probably involves a three minute discussion from the contestants to give us an insight into their decision.

Doo doo doo... Another one bites the dust...

With X Factor taking a nap, Harry Hill being shown the door, and now Paddy's had his light turned off, looks like something's getting shaken up at ITV.

Never really liked this one. I preferred the cheesy questions and answers on Blind Date.

Ninja Warrior skewed a little bit more male than most of their other entertainment shows, but nothing particularly drastic. It was still nearly 60% female (think ITV’s average is about 62% female). Still deserves to return though.

I’m interested to see how Epic Gameshow goes full stop. The returning game shows will have good brand value but Alan Carr hasn’t had a hit in a while and isn’t a known ITV face (he’s very good though).

It's aired through the previous football tournaments so suspect it will again this year.

It would be easier to launch in mid July as the football will eat into its audience.

Plus Love Island is a much bigger deal to ITV now than it was when they scheduled the 2016 series to run through Euro 2016, I can’t see that happening again. Whilst the vast majority of World Cup 2018 matches were over by 9pm so they didn’t clash.
