Has anyone notice that on nightscreen when it gets to the CITV bit they still use the old CITV logo from before the 2013 rebrand.

Nightscreen is like a TV Time Machine mashup of old ITV styles and practices! It still says "programmes may vary depending on your region" at the bottom of the screen despite everything I've ever seen it promote be the stuff that goes out in all areas anyway. The old CITV Logo on Nightscreenhas been noticed before:

It actually says "programme times may vary depending on your region", which does happen fairly regularly in regions such as Border Scottish, Channel, STV and UTV, where network programmes are often shown at different times because of regional programmes.

Yeah, Nightscreen's look is based on the 2005 package with the four squares. Quite why they didn't update the CITV logo they use when they updated the colour scheme to match the current ITV logo (yellow became pink) is a mystery. There's also no excuse for it not using the corporate font.

I suspect its target audience (ie people who can't sleep and those who have been out all night in a nightclub or pub somewhere and are totally out of it) probably aren't too fussed about various logos and typefaces being out of date. Neither are ITV it would appear.

Mind you having a mishmash of logos and styles isn't a new thing, the classic example here was the BBC Learning Zone, itself plodding along for years on an look and theme that eventually looked totally detached from BBC Two (and the BBC as a whole).

I'm doubt Nightscreen has a "target audience". It's just a really cheap way to fill air time.

What's the official excuse for Nightscreen still carrying on nowadays? With ITV doing what they can to be as profitable as possible nowadays, I'm surprised they don't sell the space for teleshopping or more gambling rubbish.

The soundtracks remain the best things about Nightscreen.

None of them have been commercially released, have they? Some of Ceefax's soundtracks have, however.

I believe it’s been said there is literally no audience at that time hence why gambling etc ends earlier in the evening.

You still can't beat the original teletext-based nightscreen

Channel 5's gambling slot ends around 3am and after that they show repeats. Nightscreen is going to be cheaper than anything else they could show at this time.

I posted this in the Challenge thread but thought it's relevant here as well. Surprised no ones picked up on this. The Larry Grayson special that's due to air in April is being presented by Michael Barrymore who's making his ITV comeback.

Michael Barrymore is making his ITV comeback for the first time since being axed from the channel 16 years ago. The 65-year-old presenter was previously dropped by ITV in 2002 following the tragic death of Stuart Lubbock in the swimming pool of his Essex home the year before. He’s set to return at Easter in an ITV3 documentary about the late Larry Grayson, with Barrymore having performed as his warm-up act on The Generation Game.

I’m pretty sure he’s just a talking head in that, not the host.
