Look forward to the "ITV idents AXED after one week" articles on the 8th Jan. And 15th. And 22nd.

One of the best things with the current ITV idents is the varied soundtrack, many pieces of which are lovely to listen to (when you can hear them that is)

Personally I think it’s currently too varied. They need a distinctive musical motif to provide more of a consistent audio identity. There’s not really anything to link the soundtrack from one ident to the next at the moment.

Completely disagree - I think there is a very strong hook between all the idents and with the vast majority they would be recognisable as ITV from the audio alone.

Well it’s been totally lost on me for the past six years. I really can’t place a distinctive tune, with the exception of a few like Pug Wash - but I’m not hearing that in any others. I guess there’s a kind of samey, downbeat muzak-ness about them all, but it doesn’t strike me as a very strong connection.

Take a listen to the clean soundtracks on the idents here

and see if you notice a connection. There is quite a clear connection with the soundtracks, just usually when the announcer is talking over it you can't hear it clearly.

Listening to them back-to-back, I have to concede there is a connection which I’d not picked up on until now. Thank you for enlightening me!

I still think it’s far too subtle and forgettable though, but then I think the idents as a whole are very bland and dull. Here’s to 2019. Smile

The snippets we've seen look visually stunning. Roll on 2019.

They remind me of the Central Idents from the mid-late 90s (pre Carltonisation) and the old C4 Idents which were stunning (however went stale through overuse IMO). Some interesting concepts and kudos for ITV based on what is seen so far. Will reserve judgement but something different going on makes a welcome change, like the new BBC Two idents as others have said 2019 could be a good year for TV presentation...

Now to destroy Onemess.

Wonder how the promo end boards will look now, or will they stick to the current white background with large text but now with different backgrounds to it instead to match the idents? The large text looks awful I think, hopefully it looks more sensible laid out in the new year.

From page one:

promo material will now include programme branding alongside the respective ITV channel logo

I'm taking the latter to mean in the manner that Paramount Network trail their shows - ie you'll see the 'street sign' Coronation Street logo and the Emmerdale boxed logo instead of standard text.
Yeah, though I did notice an oddity. The logo Paramount uses to advertise Arrow doesn't match either the show's titlecard, nor the logo used on DVDs.

That's what we've been pondering in the thread. No-one knows. We will just have to wait and see.

I suppose that there are four basic possibilities for Northern Ireland.

1. The "UTV" name gets consigned to history and they'll see/hear the same ITV-branded network continuity as most of the rest of the UK.

2. The current dull/limited rotation of UTV idents continues during 2019, so they miss out on Project 52 entirely.

3. New idents especially for NI are produced, filming each of the new "itv" artworks in such a way that you don't get to see that it says "itv" (e.g. subtle/oblique angles, close-ups of details/sections, dim lighting, etc). The footage will then have a "U(tv)" logo idly slapped on top, much like the current ident set.

4. Each artist produces both an "itv" artwork, and a "U(tv)" one as well.

We'll not know which until New Year's Day, I expect.
