It doesn't make sense, for ITVplc it makes financial sense and as said after the BBC, Granada is the most recognised and the biggest production company, so for financial reasons you don't blame them. Though I guess they think that people still would rather see Granada then ITV, which really it is more that Granada took over Carlton, as they have a bigger share in ITVplc and Charles Allen is currently head of the company.
Though they said that not everything will be coming under ITV ___ (Name goes there), as Carlton Screen Advertising will still exsist. On the day of the merger the head of regional programmes at Granada (Manchester) said that programmes will come under 'Granada Production' but she meant this in the same way that Corin did, which is that when people hear Granada they always associate it with the North West.
Plus you never know they may have not got permission from SMG and the Independents to use the ITV name across Network programmes, as to those viewers it will make no sense, same to those who watch ITVplc's programmes on other channels, as Countdown would have looked odd on the endcap

YORKSHIRE
An ITV Production for Channel 4.
Though its nice to see that Granada will still exist for some time to come on screen, which is good I suppose. It is confusing though, they don't seem to be thinking like one big company which Allen and Green promised some time ago.
I was looking in The Times on Friday and it said that there will be a conference on Monday, which will see a new logo for ITVplc and confirmation of the closures and the creation of Granada Productions.

I still don't get why they merged Carlton & Granada together to create ITV.plc, a single ITV entity, getting rid of the Carlton & Granada names, yet the production arm of ITV is going to be called Granada.
Is it just me that doesn't get the lack of logic? Why couldn't they just have ITV productions, much as the BBC have BBC productions.
Carlton + Granada = ITV.plc
Carlton Productions + Granada productions = ITV productions.
Why has the Granada name been brought back? And why is the new company called ITV.plc if they want to use Granada for productions?
