Looks like the Broadcast Services division of Technicolor, who I believe handle ITV playout from Chiswick, is being bought by Ericsson.

There have been reports in the press (who knows how reliable) that Ericsson have also been looking at Red Bee.

I think someone needs to draw me a diagram of who own who these days...

Ericsson have been increasingly getting into the broadcast field lately, having bought the broadcasty bits (professional satellite kit, etc) of Tandberg from Cisco, who are now using the brand for videoconferencing kit.

Technicolor, as it is these days, was actually Thomson, but they bought Technicolor and rebranded themselves. But it seems they also dumped their TV and radio transmission divisions, and Grass Valley, who made mixers and stuff.

(And everyone else, like Pro-Bel and Vistek seems to have been rolled into Snell, formerly "and Wilcox")

At least, I think I've got that right. If anyone knows better, please correct me...

ThomsonGrassValley also bought most of the Philips/BTS broadcast division (cameras, vision mixers, routers etc.) - with most of Thomson's camera range ditched and replaced by the massively better Philips LDK cameras (now branded Grass Valley).

However I think Thomson have now disposed of the resulting GrassValley group haven't they?

Didn't Carlton own Technicolor at one time?

Indeed, but I'm sure it was one of the first things that got flogged off when Carlton became ITV plc.
