Yeah some guy on DS said this but then another poster said that ofcom only allow 3/4 hours a night max. Dunno if this is every channel or just the main ones
AIUI that kind of thing isn't allowed on ITV1, or any terrestrial channel for that matter, otherwise I'd have thought they'd have had Teleshopping on years ago. Although from time to time you'd get the odd long advert for an overpriced Time Life CD.
If ITV Play gets the chop I'm guessing they'll show a film and put Nightscreen on at 3.00am or so. Although a repeat of the previous evenings viewing would be more than welcome IMO.

They could always resort to the annoying shopping advertising, effectively a channel shutdown as the very long ads run continuous for a few hours.

I like the idea of a repeat of the previous evening's TV - could work well. Or maybe a Best Of ITV strand from 1am to 4am?
HA
All well and good for those like you who'd like to see a return to such times, but what about those who don't or can't sleep at night? Are they not entitled to watch something?
Just flick though the billions of digital channels we have now, that will solve your problem!

Yeah kinda like a catch up from primetime programmes to fill the nighttime slot.
The BBC do it, albeit their programmes are sign languaged, although I'd have thought that the Sign Zone is probably welcomed by shift workers and insomniacs too.

How about what the BBC used to do (I think they still do it on some programmes) - "BBC Four on BBC Two" - so basically they could have a 1am to 4am slot on ITV1 called "ITV3 on ITV1" or something? And show old ITV programmes...

The potential scrapping of ITV Play on ITV1 has been on the cards ever since the famous "rawlplugs" incident on Quizmania.
Since then of course, ITV Play the channel has been closed, Channel 4 sold Quiz Call, many quiz channels and services have disappeared and those that are left are only propped up by the WinWinTV software or Live Roulette.
According to an article published in the Daily Mail last Sunday:

A European Court of Justice ruling could force the UK to treat many shows as advertising or teleshopping instead of entertainment.
That would undermine their viability since advertising is covered by far stricter rules than ordinary TV, with limited minutes allowed per hour on commercial services such as ITV, Channel 4 and Five.
The European Court of Justice is considering whether an Austrian show called Quiz-Express is mainly aimed at entertaining the public or whether it is simply trying to suck in premium-rate calls from viewers trying to win prizes.
The Advocate General for the court has advised the judges that Quiz-Express should be classed as advertising. The court normally follows the Advocate's opinion.

Yey!!!!!!!!!!! Best news (if true) in a long time. I'm surprised Ofcom haven't closed down ITV Play - decieving viewers etc already.
