I'm surprised no one has posted this yet:

BBC News posted:
...Also, scandal-hit ITV Play's remaining call-in competition programmes, that are broadcast late at night on ITV1 and ITV2, are to be scrapped.

"Negative publicity following compliance problems across the sector has seen call volumes drop to uneconomic levels," ITV said.

No surprises there, if ITV Play the strand is scrapped, then surely everything else quiz related cannot be far behind. It was a gravy train for broadcasters, they've had their fun, their scams and their money, now the services are disappearing like there's no tomorrow. If ITV Play can't survive, even by lieu of being on a mainstream channel, what hopes does the rest have?

Roulette seems to be the big in-thing at the moment in terms of filler television on the digital channels though, something which is a fixed-odds game and also a lot fairer (and cheaper to enter and play too).

As much as I am glad that ITV Play is being axed finally, I can't really see a return to the Nightime programmes of old, it'll be just Jeremy Kyle and 60 Second Makeover re-runs.

Not to mention soddding ITV Nightscreen starting at 3am like when they were pulled the quiz shows briefly earlier in the year

I'm thinking some other form of late night gambling bullcrap will be on instead. Poker and roulette are the current money spinners which isn't much better than impossible puzzles, now just rigged tables instead.

How about some films? During the whole debacle earlier this year when they were pulled for a couple of nights I actually had something to watch on 4 channels instead of the 2 I'm usually stuck with.

From Media Guardian:

Quote:
Mr Grade is focusing programming efforts on acquisitions and talent deals rather than upping flagship network ITV1's budget.

He said ITV1 would be relaunching next year "with a major facelift" and would become more efficient.

Right .. so that's how many major facelifts in the past five years? If it's not careful it will start resembling a cross between Tom Jones and Anne Robinson.

One word: Hallelujah! However I'm worried about ITV1's amount rebrands they had in 5 years, I'm just hoping they create a better package/strong package when it relaunches. Grade's plans look promising just hoping it will make ITV better.
