Isn't ITV Play a waste of an opportunity?

Why can't they use the channel as a bit of a rival to Challenge TV? You know - they could show some classic and retro ITV game shows as well as the cruddy call-in shows that they insist on having aswell.

Surely that PlayAlong loop game can't be making that much money during the day?

I don't think the actual channel makes much money full stop - it's overnights on ITV1 where the profits come in - you only have to compare the prizes to work that out.

I certainly doubt the actual channel is even breaking over considering what they have to pay for the slot.

IMO they'd be best of replacing it with an ITVi video stream - it means they could have some interactive content on Freeview, and they could still use it for ITV Playalong during the downtime.

Or.. they can change it to an actual channel and show old ITV games. Wink

I honestly don't know what the future is for ITV Play.

PlayDJ - you may as well stick that as a live stream on the ITV website as that's all it amounts to and as for Playalong....gimme strength!

ITV would let people watch paint dry providing it generated profit. Rolling Eyes

Don't give them ideas, we'll be getting a new show soon "Paint Drying with Celebrities"

I don't think Challenge make any money from showing old ITV game shows. In recent years most have been dropped in favour of poker programmes

Hardly, daytime and primetime are still dominated with ITV gameshows. Poker shows are normally only shown after 11pm.

I reckon ITV Play will end when the contract with Two Way TV (the company that makes Play DJ and ITV Playalong) ends.

Obviously they'll carry on with late night Glitterball (which, by the way, looks promising), The Mint (when it returns) and Make Your Play. That's definitely where most of the money is.
