As the success of ITV Play isn't based on ratings I doubt how popular the programmes are matters
I would presume that ITV's attempt to raise the standard of quiz tv hasn't worked, as all that has happened, is increased costs, but the same revenue as the other cheaper quiz channels

Can't see ITV Play lasting long now - it seems the popular shows with the loyal fanbases are the ones that are going - and ITV Play won't be far behind!
As I've said several times, I doubt the actual channel is that profitable, with it being the ITV1 slots which are bringing in the profits!
ITV Movies can't be far away then!

The problem with that though is that if the programmes are too dire there will be nobody watchign them & they'll get less money

The hole has fallen through the Quiz TV Channel market now.
Quiz Call has disappeared as a channel, now to be a standalone programme on Five US soon, Jackpot TV has lived on the Win Win TV software for months now and TGBBQ will probably disappear as a channel too.
I reckon ITV Play will end up a carbon clone of Jackpot TV, as its been pretty obvious for a while now that its the only "programme" almost certainly guaranteed not to give away any money. It already runs for effectively 16hrs a day, five of them dressed up as Play DJ. Then it'll disappear off Freeview in favour of something else.

Do you mean the one with the "lottery game" on it, if so you're right in regards to not giving away any money, every time I see it the most numbers people get are two

I don't understand that PlayDJ - isn't just a Playalong with in-vision continuity?
This all started for me with Big Game TV in 2004. I was flicking through the channels on Freeview and suddenly this appeared on ITV3. Back then it was nice to watch when nothing else was on - just one presenter and a simple game "who's the celebrity" - featuring a blurred out picture. None of these constant tower games. Obviously I never phoned in and it was clear they were making callers wait etc.
So within the last two years, nearly every commercial channel (certainly on Freeview) went Quiz TV crazy starting off with Quizmania on ITV1 then the Quizcall channel was launched, soon after half of FTN's late night schedule was taken up by Quiz Night Live and the bug spread to music channels such as The Hits and TMF. An easy way for channels to make a profit and in some cases "con" the viewers - ITV saw a major opportunity and jumped on the bandwagon with their ITV Play channel and shows like The Mint.
I think the whole interactive late night quiz fad has gone too far now especially if they start deciding when and how to give money away - I certainly think the "Add the Numbers" games are a complete disgrace and should never be put on TV!
The only quiz programme with real friendly interaction out of all of them is Quizmania and with that due to be axed the rest should follow!

Play DJ is the natural progression of Playalong - basically the same thing in-vision, the chat, playing Buzzwords and Izit all session and playing a bit of music as well as reading out texts on the screen. Apart from that its wants to be the CBBC Broom Cupboard, only without any atmosphere.
Some people really do have more money than sense on the chat though. I did see one message from somebody the other day that said along the lines of "I've just seen how much I've spent on Play DJ and I'm worried", which Nigel read out and responded with "So you're addicted to us then? That's good to hear".

Who is daft enough to play Play DJ? When I watched it, I worked out on the one game I saw, you would have had to spend £12 in texts to get in the top ten for a 1 in 10 chance to win £20.
What sort of odds are those?
If ITV Play goes does that mean we get proper programmes back overnight on ITV1 again?

Nope, it's those slots that are making the money! All it means is another new channel from ITV on Freeview.
And who'd have thought that overnight programming from ITV's past would ever be described as "proper programming".
