Play DJ might be cheap to run, but compared to the overblown offerings from Granada and Fremantle over the last few months, it's actually quite easy to watch and the music breaks are a nice addition.
Still, hopefully ITV Play will be reduced to a strand on ITV1/2 overnights and a new channel can take over it's place.
AND, I'M AFRAID, THAT EARLY INDICATIONS ARE THAT CERTAINLY THE FIRST PART OF 2007 AREN'T GOING TO BE PARTICULARLY JOYOUS... MORE ABOUT THAT OVER THE COMING DAYS.
Chuck Thomas just put the final nail in the coffin...

Thanks for all your messages over the last few days. For those of you that haven't already heard, I’m sorry to say that the rumours are true and Quizmania will be closing it's wobbly pink doors for the last time on 14th January 2007. Thanks to everybody (you know who you are) for making it such a cult phenomenon and a fun place to work. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing. CT
I'm going to miss the antics of Greg and Flash more than the show
Oh dear! Well when Quizmania goes the rest of ITV Play should go with it, there'll be nothing to watch on it anymore. The Mint is becoming "smiley smiley" tediousness! And Craig Stevens is just a bad smell that won't go away.
I really hope that Greggles and the rest of the team land on their feet and we'll be seeing them back on the screen very soon!
As for the Mint and the rest of ITV Play - well, the only part of The Mint I like is the Brian and Bev partnership - quite funny at times.
And although Play DJ is a better concept than just playalong games all day - if they do it all the time, they'll kill it off through it becoming a stale format.
Ah well - let's all toast the fantastic fabulousness that is Mr. Greg Scott!
Been a pleasure watching ya!!
Seems a crazy move by ITV to only keep alive the shows which are probably more guilty of breaking any codes of practise with OFCOM than any others.
The Mint drags out some of the puzzles with often little or no callers, and has also often resorted to these ridiculous "Add the Numbers" games - the answer to which varies depending on how the producer feels on the day - "yes, I think I will count letters as roman numerals on this show"
Make Your Play is extremely tedious - and although it's obviously a cash cow to ITV, being completely an in-house job (as you can tell after 5 minutes of the thing), it's completely unwatchable.
Although this kind of TV is only "short-term" TV, and that the average viewers watch these channels for probably a maximum of 2 minutes - QM was the only one that actually made the effort to insert any entertainment.
I know some thought QM was completely ridiculous and ludicrous, but my point stands that it was the only type of programme that tried to redefine the whole call TV concept... yet it's the one that gets f_cked over first.
Now that QM is gone I just hope the others die a slow and painful death now too.

The others will be gone soon no doubt, I consider myself a professional Quiz TV player but Quizmania would be the only show I could watch if I was not participating in the games!
