I always thought that a better word for lossy would be lousy....
Isn't there a license requirement for broadcasting quiz tv? Like are they allowed to broadcast first thing on Sunday morning when the kids are awake, downstairs and playing with Mummy and Daddy's freeview box whilst they're upstairs, snoring away the three bottles of red wine they had last night?
I just it fails as badly as ITV Digital!!!!!!! ITV should be concentrating on its 2 entertainment stations ITV1 and ITV2, it classics station - ITV3.
I think ITV should merge ITV Men and Motors with ITV4.
Money from these stations should help produce more decent home-grown television and more superior children's television (just like in the 1980's and 1990's)
I know gaming channels create lots of money quickly but its success it also based on presentation. Quizmania is a success becuase Fremantle knows how to presnt programmes in a very entertaining way. ITV's entertainment is a complete embarrasement so can you imagine what ITV Play is going to be like????

Many of the segments of ITV Play are supposedly being produced by independent companies, some already with established 'quiz tv' experience.
I'm not a huge fan of this kind of TV but I'd expect ITV Play to soon become the market leader in this genre. You only have to look at the overnight Quizmania segments on ITV1 to see that these offer far bigger prizes than most of the others put together, and it sounds like they're looking to offer something a bit different with themed segments, not just the same output all day.
Brian Dowling is probably a mistake though, granted.
Digital Spy reported yesterday that ITV have extended their deal to broadcast on Mux D for another 5 years - through till 2011.
While I know C4 bid for their crown castle slots stating their +1 channels would be replaced at a later date, did ITV do the same with Men and Motors. It doesn't seem right they could win the bid with a mens channel then turn it into a games channel!
