Oh my! Cash Call's on again - it seems they've taken the 'advertising' approach: "Do you earn less than £500 a week? Are you unemployed even? Give us a call now" Rolling Eyes

So right now at 3.30am we have...

Quizmania: Body____ (£1000) - ITV1
Dare: Guess the word (£1250?) - ITV2
Cash Call: Count the Triangles (£500) - The Hits

I think the one big mistake ITV are making is branding it with their own name and logo as sooner or later people are going to realise what a con these channel's are and there will be a big backlash, at least Channel 4 had the sense to just call their channel 'Quiz Call', how many non-media savvy people would even realise that its a Channel 4 channel?

To be fair Quizmania is far superior to the other channels I've seen.

Last night flicking through the channels Quizcall had one game running from around 6pm through till past 1am.

Missing word:
RO_E
M_ST
MA_E
B_ND

And don't underestimate the power of the ITV brand - calling it ITV Play automatically distinguishes it from the numerous other quiz channels on satellite and cable.

P.S. Any idea what number this will take - I assume it'll take M&Ms channel 35 slot on Freeview.

Ridiculous really - despite the Freeview EPG revamp the earliest available new slot is now channel 38!

With these competitions running for hours, it would be interesting to see what sort of ratings the quiz channels get. As far as I can tell BARB don't count them. Unless they are too low to rate.

There was an article in Media Guardian a couple of months ago saying they could survive on audiences as low as 300-500 people, as long as enough people ring up.

Just wondering if there is regulations on advertising on these channels as Quizcall don't air ads, even when presenters switch.

I imagine ITV at least will want to air promos on the channel.

Hallmark now have two hours of crap quizzes in the afternoon too. It's not a bubble which has burst. Yet.

This is what is annoying me more than the actual channels - these extended slots on what should be general entertainment channels.

OFCOM need to act to stop broadcasters doing this!

One quiz or shopping channel on Freeview is more than enough. If I was in charge, I'd not allow them on in the first place, and I wouldn't have anything else there instead to keep some of the quality. The mpg artifacts on a lot of Freeview channels are now more than noticeable, they are becomming annoying.

Quote:
Media Guardian are reporting that this will go into the Men and Motors slot on Freeview and M&M will become a DSat and DCable channel only.

Well, not the best channel on Freeview, but still a hell of a lot better than quiz rubbish.

The revenue from the calls should, I would have thought, been enough to prop the channel up. There's clearly far more callers ringing up than they ever put on air, and as all calls are charged whether you get through or not...

I suppose the same principle applies to bid.tv and price-drop.tv - with the phone call costing £1.50 per call and P&P at £7.99...

No wonder Channel 4 don't attach the 4 brand to Quiz Call, it's the tackiest of the lot in terms of presentation.

Cheap tacky sets, vulgar presentation and graphics, nauseating presenters devoid of personality who have the inability to stand in one place. Summed up, it's the pits.

I notice there is something new on Men & Motors started this afternoon, "The Daily Quiz" 3pm - 6pm. It appears to have replaced that nauseating woman on "Cash Lounge". Instead we get two annoying blokes with an "entertainment news quiz show" including showbiz news and gossip, plus of course the usual 60p a call format. They are behind a desk with fake laptops.

Is this a trial for the kind of thing we are likely to expet from ITV Play ?

Edit : I'm guessing it must be the free web entry and webpage is at http://www.itv.com/thedailyquiz
