ITV has been presented with the International Emmy Directorate Award for 50 years of "excellence in commercial broadcasting in the United Kingdom."

Helen Mirren presented the award to ITV CEO Charles Allen at a star-studded ceremony hosted by Graham Norton in New York on Monday night.

The Directorate Award is given to companies "for their outstanding contributions, over a period of time, to the arts and sciences of international television," according to the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Other winners at the International Emmys included Oprah Winfrey, who was presented with the Founders Award for "her international broadcast career and her philantrophic initiatives."

"This year’s winners are representative of the growing excellence in worldwide programming and the Academy is proud to be the platform for recognizing outstanding achievement in the international television community," said IATAS president and CEO Bruce Paisner.

Why would they give an award to "people who save lives" (whatever that means) at a television awards ceremony?

How I meant, is that IMO, ITV so far has done a poor job on it's programmes, (Too many "Celebrity this and that".)
And to my comment on "people who saves lives" I mean that there should be a award for Doctors and Nurses etc... (I wouldn't of thought ITV would win a emmy)

Why dont they change TVF into a forum about Doctors and Nurses then? Your point wasnt realy relevant.

But then the award was for "ITV has been presented with the International Emmy Directorate Award for 50 years of "excellence in commercial broadcasting in the United Kingdom." and not "ITV has been presented with the International Emmy Directorate Award for the last 2 years of "excellence in commercial broadcasting in the United Kingdom." with all the celebrity style programming it does and it's obvious that it's not only the UK who does this but the States is over ridden with that programming too.

Why do people think that ITV is some sort of shambolic mess? It isn't. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone else doesn't too!

Also the award was for the last 50 years, not the last 5. Don't let what you see now confuse you with what went before.

Yes it is very selfish that we are taking up this valuable webspace, when it could be used for people who save lives Laughing (sorry, couldn't resist).

ITV deserve this award, they do produce some good dramas, I saw Child of Mine recently, really top-class.

Of course they also do many excellent progorammes about people who save lives. Laughing (again, apologies).

I can't think of any channel that has been great every single year of it's existence, but if they can win awards for contribution to television then so should ITV.
