You might as well rename ITV now because it is no longer Independent Television. How about NTV - National Television - seeing as the legacy of ITV being of quality service is dead.

No, it's still independent.... unless the government have bailed it out recently

More independent than ever when you consider how the regulation has been in recent years!

Note the missing franchise from that list - Anglia, which is the one that got renamed to produce ITV Broadcasting Ltd.

So, in a roundabout way, does that mean that the whole of English and Welsh ITV has actually been taken over by Anglia ?! Razz

This is old news!

It's just company name changes, nothing more. Ofcom allow this all the time.

I'm just surprised it's taken ITV plc so long to gather their 'Channel 3 Licence' structure into a single name (even though it was legally).

It doesn't mean they are selling, facing a bid (hostile or otherwise), it's a cleaning up exercise. I notice BBCW/VM have done the same with the UKTV channels with their forthcoming and past changes too!

Nothing sinister, surely. No 'black tie watch'.

It's boring...unless you intend to do a 'Peston' on the share price for a killing? Are we?

I suspect some Welsh viewers mightn't agree with you there.

What is forgotten is that the word "Independent", in the context of ITV, originally meant "Independent from the BBC". The concept of regions originated as the ITA's way of introducing some competition for the supply of programmes into the system and the original four contractors - with the exception of Granada who made a virtue of being "From the North" - weren't too concerned about regionality. (Or originality when it came to names, otherwise how else could they have all named themselves "Associated"! But that is another story.)

I'm more curious as to why that 'Calender News Xtra' licence was still sitting on there... Shocked

I'm assuming that's for the Kingston Communications on demand type service

Yeah but since KIT fell apart a few years back, has there really been any use of that service?

I personally am somewhat nostalgic, and would obviously prefer the ol' Chevron to come back on our screens with the 5 note jingle ontop. But the realistic side of me is aware that nowadays we'll be lucky to see that every decade for a few days.

Then again, I'd be content if Channel 4 brought back their blocks idents for more than just anniversaries... but that's another thread altogether! Laughing

Anglia was renamed that and every licence was assigned to that new holding company.

why is it that at the end of local news, it states "a production for itv", when its itv who has produced it?

its sounds like it was produced by someone else.
