Itv nighttimes with and without morning news

without the morning news finsihing on 21st december 2012 see news thread we see that nightscreen just fills the gap and sometimes it looks as if it will run from not many minutes past 2 am some mornings until 6 am in its entirety and my question is, is this a waste of air and will stv simply show the nightshift for 6 continuous hours through to daybreak - yawn.
