Been watching Nightscreen the past few days and noticing how funkier the music is compared to some of the Pages from Ceefax music... What do you think of the Nightscreen music compared to Ceefax muisic?

There's one particular tune, I'm not sure if everyone's heard it as I think they use different music in different regions, but in London we get this really funky tune with rather strange "ba ba ba ba wop" sort of vocals on it - anyone know the tune/what its called? I love it!

(and just a small request - but if you know what tune it is could you possibly capture it for me?, thanks).

PFC recently introduced a CD with some good trip hop stuff on it. I can't really listen to the nightscreen music, it's badly done in my opinion. Havn't they always used the same music too?

If we're lucky, over xmas they wont bother with too much News 24 (now that they are showing it on BBC 2 when BBC 1 is still going, and they close down on the weekends), and we can hear the trip-hop stuff in full. I did manage to get some great 70's style easy listening stuff from PFC last xmas.

Have you got a Nicam video? If so, just use that to tape Nightscreen and you'll have a good (almost CD quality) copy of the tune you want, as long as it's a good quality recorder and you do it in normal recording mode, not Long Play.

some of the music on nightscreen is rather fab, although i'm not particularly alert at that time in the morning.

hard to really compare the nightscreen music with ceefax - i mean ceefax does go for the classic lift music mix of cheesy melodies, bit of jazz and a few surprises here and there - where as nightscreen seems far more contemporary.

i still maintain that central jobfinder infopages had the nicest selection of music - most ofit was mega cheesy (but modern) with quite a few "vocal" tracks too - one notable one about chocolate.

oh how i miss derw, simon and the central job finder team Sad

Ceefax wins hands down. With the exception of the most recent minidiscs, Ceefax has always been listenable while Nightscreen relies too heavily on bottom-of-the-barrel "music" for its soundtrack.

Having said that, Ceefax has suffered from the closure of the BBC's International Recordings department at Elstree in 1999. The "uniqueness" of Ceefax music has now gone. Nevertheless they're doing a great job at BBC2.

Mind you it's been a long time since we heard any Trevor Lyttleton, Mozart Edition and Chacksfield material - take note BBC!

My video player in my room doesn't say whether it's Nicam or not. It's a Sharp DV-NC65 if you're interested. It says "VHS Hifi" on it as well if that means anything.

How do I record the sound off the tape though when I record Nightscreen... the recorder has the red/white connections on it and I tried plugging a lead into it and the other end into my MD player but all I got was a bad buzzing and could very faintly hear the output from the video.

The video actually has 3 connections... 1 yellow one marked "Line In3 Video" and one red and one white connection marked "Audio L & R"

The sockets on the front of your video are not outputs, they are inputs. You need a SCART lead if you want to record from the video to the minidisc. The SCART socket should be on the back of your video, and it's a big rectangular socket.

You must buy a SCART lead that has the red and white plugs on the end of it. You also need an adaptor so that you can connect these red and white plugs to the red and white plugs on your minidisc lead. This adaptor will be called something like "stereo rca phono sockets to stereo rca to phono sockets", but that's probably nothing like what it'll say on the packet, so make sure you go to a store like Maplin (an electronics hobby shop) to get it otherwise you could end up with the wrong thing - you'll need to ask for it specifically. Maybe, you could print this out and show it to them.

The VHS Hi-fi thing means that you probably have a Stereo video, but I dont know if it means its NICAM or not. At least, if you record from this it'll just sound like it came from a cassette tape instead of a CD.

I hope this makes sense, if not, can somebody with a better grasp of English please try and fathom what I'm on about and re-write it in a clear and non-technical language.

It's the same on Tyne Tees, and has been since Tyne Tees started showing YTV Jobfiner (I'm sure it was YTV's, because they never had any jobs North of Rotherham).

The music loop is roughly 90 mins long as far as I know, I'll check that tape mam left running all night Confused .

Thanks for this.

Couple of questions - can any old member of the public register for this service, because by the looks of it, you have to be part of a company in order to use the service.

Secondly, if the tune I am looking for is on there - how do I know, because I don't know the name of the tune!
