Hello, my first posting to this group. I want to know what you think about the ITV nightime hours, say from midnight to around 5.30am. I know the numbers of viewers at that hour are small, but I think the schedule ITV screens is generally very poor.

Cheap sports shows, and not very inspiring repeats some of the time, and for almost an hour and a half, Nightscreen simply a form of Teletext. Sad

What is best for night time viewing taking shift workers into account? Should perhaps ITV be told to sharpen up, or perhaps the hours between 12 and 5.30am be offered as a separate national contract?

ITV uses this time to show less audience grabbing programmes they have because there's not much of an audience to get anyway!

They could, I suppose have ITN News Channel say from 1am but what would happen to the programmes with signing for deaf people. They could show a film, but generally, they are repeats anyway.

I don't want to be rude in saying this - so don't take it the wrong way, but they can't please everyone!

To Mike - Thanx for your reply, no they cannot please everyone, but annalogue TV channels are rare in this country, only 5 channels, and to stick on hours and hours of teletext seems a waste of potential broadcasting hours to me. There is a potential audience out their, but nothing much inspiring for them to watch IMHO Smile

Well, if we have BBC1 with News, BBC2 with educational programmes, Ch4 with 'alternative' stuff, and Ch5 with either sport of movies, depending on the day, ITV should be general entertainment, which is what more or less it shows....

I do agree that it could be jazzed up a bit, but, if so few viewers watch at the time, they need to weigh up the cost and wether it's worth it or not.
