Because it's a Music Library.

No idea what the track is called, maybe try the Requests forum?

Give me the old Granada NightTime cat any day of the week!

When Night Time was good and watchable and not just a filler like it is nowadays!

I would guess that it's likely they are library. Unable to point you in any direction though, I'm afraid.

I see you've referred to the 'idents' rather than just the one ident, but then you seem to ask about just the one piece of music featured in that clip - are you just after that one, or after all the different pieces used in the other variants too?

These idents were genre / mood specific; there were at least 4 variations, colour-coded and with their own music. The purple sequence you've linked to was the default symbol, but it there was, say, a sport programme, they'd have used the symbol specific to that. The white-coloured ident from that set does have a rather library-esque upbeat dance track to go with it.

The same CD that features the piece used on the 'subject' sting in BBC Two's Learning Zone.
