Did anyone see the West Wing on E4? For a mock news programme on it, they used the ITV News theme tune, I cant remember the name, 'A' something. Does ITN let local American news stations use it or something?

I've also seen it used in that MTV cartoon, Spy Groove.

At first I thought it was the old News At Ten theme, until it went into the headline bed and I realised it was ITV News.

The two are similar pieces of music. Both include the DARGH! DAH, DAH, DAH! DAH! DAH! DAH, DAH! bit. ITN probably only have UK copyright to the music.

This was a thread a while ago, or have I just gone mad and been dreaming TV Forum? Anyway in that thread I think people replied that it had been on a professional themes CD, and someone even found what the track number was! Try doing a search.

The theme appeared on library music CD.  As with library music, any broadcaster can use it, and as there is no reference on the CD to the track not being allowed to be used in the UK, if they wanted to, the BBC could use it in their news.

http://www.kpm.co.uk although you can only get hold of them if your a professional post production tv/radio company and are registered with the MCPS which ain't easy to do without proving your legitimate.

The same goes for many of the ITV Regional News themes and past BBC Regional News themes.  I've several shelves filled with the CDs and on every news related one, you can be guaranteed to find one you recognise!

Even Guy Michaelmore has released the majority of his on one CD, and it is good!
