Next week's Radio Times shows regional news only at 3pm

I bet it's kinda odd for those watching on Scottish TV, with regional news at 12.50pm (5/6 Mins), 2.00pm (25 Mins) and 3.00pm (10 Mins) all that regional news! Or do they show something else at 3pm now?

For Granada it makes bugger all difference, it is just a very short version of the 6pm show obviously and they come from the main studio too.

For HTV Wales News it comes from the big studio with 1 presenter for the 11am (sometimes), 12.50 and 3pm bulletins and from the big studio with 2 presenters for the main 6pm bulletin.

The GMTV and Late Night bulletins come from the smaller studios and sometimes the 11am one will too.

I think 15 minutes is a bit long for the mid afternoon round-up - even the lunchtime news is shorter than that - about 7 minutes long.

Its not 15 mins though as there's also Regional Weather and then Crimestoppers, Community Link, It's Your Call, Lifeline, Granada Action or whatever etc at about 3.10pm

Well on HTV Wales we have Crimestoppers which is about a minute long followed by Community Message which is 30 seconds. Before that we have the weather which is about 1 minute long. so its still about 12.5 minutes which is rather long for a minor bulletin, wouldnt it be better for them to have the lunchtime news over 10 minutes long rather than the mid afternoon news.

I noticed on Monday I think that at the end of the Lunchtime News Katie Derham advised viewers to join Mark Austin and Mary (nicked my job) Nightingle for the Evening News, something they haven't really done since the launch of the ITV News Channel.

I too noticed the late night regional news was on at 11.50pm last night - Jonathan Hill presented it here in Wales. I expect Lucy Cohen will tonight.

I never really saw the point in the 3pm ITV News summary anyway, OK it gives you a quick round-up but either make it worthwhile (ie at least 5 mins long) or dont bother. And with the ITV News channel on 24/7 we dont really need these small summaries.

I think of late it has only been used to trail the itv evening news - it is not on long enough to call it a summary. They even had the presenter sitting on the desk all very casual "join us at 6.30 for the latest"!!!!

Yup at around 3.12 we get a rather long and rather boring edition of Granada Action, which is still sponsored by the Cheshire Building Society and still has the same look as 5 years ago, still with the G in a blue rectangle too at the end. But this is the only time of the day they are shown now, but they are alot longer, up until early this year they were still going out at 5.58 but they have gone from that to just after 3.10 on most days. I assume this has happened to the other GMG Regions, with their equivelents?

You're thinking of the 11.55am one, the 3pm bulletin was still a formal one with a presenter sitting down. When they relaunched in 1999 it was originally just a preview of the Evening News, and Trevor McDonald presented it!

well i think this is a perfect opportunity to bring back central post. i know ann dawson has gone, but i think the girl who took over at central south or any of the girls at central west could front it.

it was fab to hear correspondence from viewers - and i bet it would be looked upon favourably by the itc.

I don't see why they can't just do a "Coming Up" trailer at 3pm, like they used to do with Sir Trev, as mentioned. They did one where he appeared in a box on the left, with graphics demonstrating what was being said. It looked really good and would be easy to do, seeing as the presenters are always around then anyway.

I know alot of people here are fans of regional news, but I'd personally prefer an ITV Afternoon News at 3pm - around 10 minutes of national news and 5 minutes of regional news.
