I read in a previous thread that the 'news control center' behind the newsreader on the ITV news is an image. Is this true because the TV Monitors change image in the background and you can see people walking across the balcony above the newsreader. So: what do you think?
Don't know for sure about the main image behind the presenters on ITV News though suspect it is real as there is no obvious CSO/Chroma key fringing around the presenters.
However the programme title at the top of the screen during the opening sequence is electronically added, and the zoom in is done using a DVE (Digital Video Effects device) rather than a real camera zooming in. If you watch very closely you can see the picture gets slightly softer as the zoom happens...
It's there but it isnt a real news room. It's a really large sort of picture (I'm finding it hard to describe.) It animates but it is a computer generated image. If you havn't noticed some of the moniters flash like lights but that's it. On the opening where you see the wording 'ITV News at Ten' above -I think that isn't there.
It's a fake back drop using the designs from that website, the monitors look like their changing because lights behind them flash in different places at different times.
The shots of people walking around on the opener were filmed along the balcony outside the ITN News channel some years ago, its was outside the then ITV Early Evening news studio. People were encouraged to walk along it all day for one whole day.
I used to sooo like the old News at Ten set which was in the actual newsroom. Anyone know what's there now, is it taken up by the ITN News Channel. Do all the channels, ITV, C4, C5, News Channel all have separate floors at Grays Inn Road ?

So basically: it is just a picture with two layers to make it look 3D and there are some flashing lights behind some of the monitors and the balcony doesn't exist? I don't think it is a blue screen image effect because you can usually tell (especialy on Nickelodeon)
Interesting link - so the image behind the presentes on ITV News is really physically there - but a flat photographic representation with some clever lighting effects - rather than a real newsroom. Very nicely done - no nasty CSO/Chroma key fringing and a very effective look. I did always wonder why there were so few people walking around in the background compared to the real Sky and World newsroom backgrounds, and the BBC One/Six/Ten projected background.
