ITV News' presentation team is not weak at all. Nicholas Owen and John Suchet are both fantastic presenters, best on TV at the moment. Katie Derham is also great, and Mark Austin and Mary Nightingale are good. Having been to the ITN Studios it proves that the ITV News is not rubbish at all, and is a far superior service to viewers than the BBC. It just seems that ITV have made a mess over the last few years, mainly cause of David Liddiment.

Huw Edwards is very good in my opinion - he's natural, authoritative and can also do "friendly" when necessary.

I agree that John Suchet, Nicholas Owen and Katie Derham are good presenters (although it sounds like they're getting rid of Katie anyway). But the BBC has Huw Edwards, George Alagiah, Fiona Bruce, Sophie Raworth, Bill Turnbull, Sian Williams and Anna Ford, all of whom are excellent presenters in my opinion (admittedly not all doing the right bulletins), and I believe a stronger team than ITV.

For example, why are Mary Nightingale and Mark Austen doing the evening news? They're far too lightweight.

Well in my opinion Darren Jordan is a better presenter than any of those you have listed. Huw Edwards is terrible! He is completely boring, miserable, dull, as if he has no life away from BBC News. He is so irritating. If you're gonna include Bil Turnbull as good a good presenter, along with perhaps Fiona Bruce, George Alagiah and Anna Ford and Darren Jordan, those are the only 5 decent presenters I can think of. ITV News has John Suchet, Nicholas Owen, Katie Derham, Trevor McDonald, Owen Thomas, Mark Austin and Mary Nightingale. Just because Mark Austin is inexperienced, doesn't mean he is bad. He has a personality, a very good journalistic background, meaning to what he says and is clear. What more can he need?

Huw Edwards isn't terrible - but he was just right for the Six. The BBC got rid of Michael Buerk and Peter Sissons, quite simply, because they thought they were too old. We now have the ridiculous situation where Fiona Bruce is ahead of Buerk when the BBC decide on a stand-in for Edwards.

ITV do have the best set of presenters imo. I would pick the likes of Suchet, McDonald, Owen and Derham over somebody as airy-fairy as Bruce or as patronising and head-girl style as Sophie Raworth.

Michael Buerk wanted to retire from from the regular job of presenting the 9/10. Peter Sissons however did feel that he was being retired because of his age.

As regards Huw Edwards, he is not a terrible presenter, he is authoritive yet quite relaxed in his role and he handles the 10 very well IMO.

I thought it was Peter who wanted to leave, and Michael had some sort of argument about being asked to leave. Maybe I'm wrong?

Having just about got over the loss of Sissons and Buerk, who are virtually irreplacable, from the Ten, I would agree that Huw is far from being a terrible presenter and he has grown on me a lot. I would certainly rate him above the likes of Trevor McDonald (never have seen what the fuss is about him apart from the fact he seems a nice bloke).

I would also agree that Darren Jordon is very good and appears to make newsreading a lot easier than it is. He should allow some more of his character to shine through though as there is something very repetitive about the way he reads the autocue, if that makes any sense at all! Confused

If these rumours of Katie Derham leaving ITV are to be believed it would be bad news for the channel as she is one of the best they've got. Watching the Evening News at 6.30 (which I rarely do) is sometimes embarrassing when Derham isn't on it. Austin, although not truely awful, is more suited to reporting.

Owen and Suchet deserve a lot of respect, but Suchet speaks too deeply in his throat sometimes and Owen can overdo the charm to sickening proportions. This means that the BBC team overall is far superior especially taking into account its huge base of quality correspondents around the globe.

I agree that, overall, the BBC team as a whole is superior - if you consider the amount of quality, well informed journalists (except a certain Mr. Gilligan) they possess. Lest we forget they have more money than any commercial outlet - so this is to be expected.

However, my main problem is their style of presentation. I was a regular viewer of the Six when Huw was presenting, but when it relaunched, whatever their intention, it came across as *extremely* patronising - it is, imo, a primetime version of Newsround. The presenters of it are so stiff, fake and reliant on the autocue it's untrue. George should be on his own, and he knows it, whilst Sophie suits Breakfast more than Natasha ever will.

Huw Edwards is definitely one of the BBC's better newsreaders, especially compared to Darren Jordon. I find him very difficult to watch, he is totally unberable. He just doesn't seem to be at ease most of the time. Although Bill Turnbull and the constant clearing of his throat is not always wonderful either
