It was reported on The ITV Evening News (on ITV1) that there were reports coming in that a vast part of London has been hit by a black-out.

Chris Rogers then continued coverage over on the ITV News Channel with two cameras looking over the London skyline illustrating the lack of lights but no major trails of people or traffic (yet)

He has spoken to Emma Kennedy in the newsroom and is now speaking to many people throughout London affected but it - one of which was a person stuck on a train in the London underground.
Chris is now speaking to his work colleague Dan Rivers who is now stuck trying to get home after spending all day reporting LIVE from the Hutton Enquiry! - I wonder if ITN will pay him for this interview?

Very good coverage.

BBC News 24 are offering a similar service but after 5 minutes deviated away to the Hutton Inquiry story.

SKY only mentioned it in passing before showing their version of the Hutton Enquiry!

PS isnt this a bit of a coincidence not even two weeks after the American blackout.

Chris Rogers has just told colleague Dan Rivers to, "go home, and you're not getting any overtime for this...."

Chris Rogers is really good at this live presenting rather than just reading an autocue and this is much better than watching BBC 24 or Sky's coverage of the Hutton Enquiry! - We've all just watched the main news bulletins and know exactly what has/is happenning with that story!

I cant believe ITV News Channel are the only station covering this story!

Both News 24 and World, and News Online have mentioned it, with the dodgy live shot on central London that you can't see because of the rain.

Power is coming back now apparently. Its not that major!

Wouldn't like to be trapped underground though!

Obviously London is not as important as New York!

60% of trains are trapped underground - some stations are being evacuated due to over crowding and the possiblilty of crushing!

This is serious and much more serious and RELEVANT to U Kcitizens rather than a power cut in America!

Is that a train halted on the bridge?

I saw Fox news mentioned it in passing with a handy map showing the American public where London was and a jolly big flag. At least they called the country the United Kingdom though, so I can't have a whinge about that.

Most of the important buildings, stations etc are affected though so it is rather important, and the stock exchange [at least it has wound down by 6.20], and London News Network, so there's no London Tonight for the moment as it stands.

Oh, and what's the gherkin?

Its a building in London that looks like a cross between a vibrator and a gherkin i suppose - but i reckon they dont want the public to nickname it the vibrator!

Don't be silly - a few hundred thousand for an hour verses 50 million for a few days.

The US power cuts were the equivilent of the entire of the UK going off - the scale between the two stories is huge.

This is clearly just a blip.
