I'm undecided, to be honest. I'm not really sure on the logo, looks a bit too cutesy for me and I question whether it'll fit ITV News particularly well. I haven't seen the whole package yet though, so I'll reserve judgment 'til then.
ITV4, which has previously struggled with its identity, will adopt a "slate grey" logo and become the "home of sport and cult classics", as well as a "man club". Channel promotion will include pub factoids - such as "One in ten children in Europe are conceived on an Ikea bed" - and idents featuring viewer nominated "dreams come true",
such as driving a Rolls Royce into a swimming pool.
The people I've seen complaining about this elsewhere generally don't like it because it's not some sort of overstated logo, but I think it suits ITV and the content they put out. The current look is a bit too uptight for ITV in a way.
My first thoughts are that I like the different direction, and will hold judgement until seen on screen.
I don't like the part of the article where it says that ITV will use life situations like loading a washing mashine and a dog in a sink. Sounds like 2006 all over again. I'm not sure about altering the colours of 2-4 that are in place already. Especially 2&3, the line green & claret have worked very well over the past 6-7 years, so lets abandon it all now. I don't understand why they will have to stick to a colour pallette, as I like the idea of ITV's (the channel, not the network's) logo alternating. If have preferred no fixed pallette & more design to the separate numerals.
The bumph about most of the channels sounds stupid. I think the worst example is that the CITV logo will make burping & farting noises, plus other noises that kids like. It sounds like they don't have a clue!
I couldn't close my mouth when I first saw it and it was nothing like what I was expecting - and I mean that in a bad way. However, the more I look at it and read about it, the negativity is slowly fading. I was expecting something like the 1999 logo, but the curvaceousness took me by surprise. I'll wait til it's on screen before I make a final judgement.
'Lifestyle', feminine, friendly - some words that spring to mind IMO; not totally out of place, actually. But for News and Current Affairs? Honestly, I'm not too sure yet.
