In my view there's never any question where their first run stuff is going to go. If they say "on ITV" it's most likely to be in their primary channel, and most of their audience understand that.

Which, of course, is where people will look first of all. However, if it is your primary channel, then why not call it ITV1, especially if you've numbered the rest of your channels (with the exception of the Children's channel)?

No one called it ITV1, that's why!

Just for your information, when I set my HDD/DVD recorder on New Year's Day to record as many standard time weekday programme junctions as possible from ITV1 Monday to Friday, I happened to set the 13:00 junction for ITV2 instead.

Just as well because that's how I got the Swimming Pool ident from ITV2 at the start of Holiday Airport: Sydney 1pm Wednesday 2 and 9 January. I haven't seen Swimming Pool used on ITV2 at all yesterday or today.

I've looked through all my recordings now and still haven't got the Boat (Lake) or Fountains idents from ITV1. Yet I've got loads of instances of Market, Snakes and Ladders (the scaffolding one) and Sunflowers.

On ITV4 do they don't seem to use the sport ident much. Is that reserved solely for sports events on ITV4, e.g. a football match?

As for CITV channel, I've spotted three idents so far:
1) a mousetrap ident - the CITV logo is the lump of cheese.
2) what resembles a moon, a rocket takes off and there are two aliens.
3) some kind of machine with a rotating CITV logo.

Are these the only CITV idents there are? If so I must have got the lot now.

I, like most in my part of the world - still call it 'Border'. I'm sure many still call it by it's 'regional name'.

As far as I remember I think there are only those few.
The idents have only recently come back after being replaced through the autumn with the walking/running kids in a leafy forest and white outlined idents.
We'll wait and see what these new noise making idents will be like farting & burping.

I used 'ITV1' to avoid confusion... A confusion that some would say never existed; everyone else I know has used 'ITV'...

I sort of understand the reversion in that respect, but either way, it's not going to make the on-screen identity any stronger.
