Well, the old chevron signage wasn't either, was it?

No it wasn't, and neither was the "YORKSHIRE TELEVISION" lettering directly beneath it. I really think that chevron was the same one they put up way back in 1968, looking at old pictures seems to confirm that. I think they only ever changed the lettering once in the 1980s (from lowercase to uppercase), and of course they eventually painted the chevron yellow at some point in the mid-1990s.

I'm not sure if the current "Yorkshire" lettering is illuminated like the "ITV" logo next to it, but it certainly is not visible from driving distance at night. The new signage won't be illuminated but at least it won't disappear into the brickwork. Laughing

Ah, I've now heard the same from someone on the South Bank. Apologies for doubting you.

No need to apologise

So this time next week, we'll all be saying how much we either love or hate the rebrand.

I wonder who'll be doing the late bulletin on Friday night. Mark jested about the current News look back in 2009 on the last News at Ten with Katie Derham...

I wish they'd bring it back

And some people say you should never go back. This was pretty much as good a look as ever and was only ditched, after less than two years, because of the modern obsession to have all the different bulletins look more or less exactly the same. Of course, the official reason given was that the titles appeared too London-centric. Rolling Eyes

Nice lingering shot on the clockface & the backdrop on the newswall. I wonder if they'll do a tour of the car park for the last ITV News bulletin of the current look. Very Happy

Have to agree that look was fantastic and still looked fresh.

Let's see what is in store next week - who knows it could be better!

I don't think the look is still fresh. It retained too many elements from 2006, and I think that 2009 was enough of an evolution to make that look seem old.

Couldn't find any application for Meridian but I suppose they're in a business park so it'll be park signage only. As for the font, I personally can't tell any difference between old and new. I think I'll wait until next week before I pass judgement, not that my opinion matters that much.

EDIT: I don't suppose that the font on this glass (from Meridian's new (Nov 2011) home) is the new font is it?

Don't penalize me for bringing it up but it was debated on the Meridian thread about the poor logo attempt and the font.

I disagree. Granted, the 2004-era desk and circular screen was retained, but the backdrop made the whole thing look vastly different and made the other bulletins looked tired and dated.

Design is subjective of course, and the 2009 refresh was indeed needed for the other programmes. But I generally feel the NAT set had class and authority. It looked clean and professional. The current set is a mess of rectangles and squares.

The most epic, and beautiful version of News At Ten.

The current version is the WORST in its history. A badly animated fly through poorly rendered blocks of STATIC images, which is particlarly appalling when you consider Channel 4 News managed to incorporate moving images into its titles more than 10 years ago.
