I wonder if ITV are going to promote the rebrand at all? If they are, tomorrow would be a good time to start.
You'd think they would given this is a major thing for ITV, but they may just go for the silent overnight change, one night we are seeing ITV1 in all its glorious yellow, the next day we see a completely different logo and a channel missing the 1 and the announcers will carry on as if nothing has changed. Who knows??

I hope they do promote the change though, it would be a good chance to get some bigger audiences back, promote some of their big new shows of the year using newspaper ads, billboards and cinema ads as well as putting ads on C4 and C5 etc

Has anyone heard if they are actually going to do anything before the big day?

They're not really going to do promos for "New idents - coming soon" are they? The usual practice is for the promotion of a rebrand to come with the rebrand itself, so I suspect they'll be a promotional campaign launched alongside the new idents in a couple of weeks time.

I didn't mean are they going to promote the new idents, no one does that, I meant are they going to promote the change, using it as a chance to promote some new shows coming to the channel and using that to also show the change to the channel itself.

They should use the old "Get ready for itv" song Laughing

I can remember the surprise when BBC changed all it's logos in 1997. First place I saw the Gill Sans blocks was on Grandstand, so I had to wait a few hours to see the balloon.

They have created something which I genuinely think will stand the test of time. It's clear a lot of thought went into it: one professional design blog I read posted about the rebrand and said the logo was excellently designed. He pointed out the slight incline on the inside of cross of the "t" so the logo scales down to a small size well, and also remarked on the spacing and other things. Can't find the link now.

I think this rebrand has taken a heck of a lot of preparation and that it will surprise a lot of people. Hopefully I'm not feeling embarrassed for writing this in two weeks, but I just have a gut feeling 2013 will be ITV's year.

This is probably the link you are looking for:

In it's basic form, the new ITV logo resembles a truncated/adapted 'twitter' logo. I'm sure I'm not the only person to notice that. It was designed 'in house', and it doesn't take much imagination to work out where they got their inspiration.

The team behind the new look was made up of experienced people recruited from both 4Creative and Red Bee, so it wasn't just any in-house designers.

I can understand if people have issues with the perhaps overly friendly tone, but as a logo it is quite well designed. As has been said, those three letters are hard to work with typographically, and the team has managed to create something distinctive.

Ah, the innocent all days. We'd have probably collectively hated the balloon back then.

Not long now hopefully and to be honest, it's ITV News that I'm most looking forward to seeing. It would be nice if the Big Ben clock face came back. I hope the bongs are retained for the headlines.

I think so too! It's the iconic 'symbol' of ITV News.

Heh, yeah, I was 13 at the time, and I couldn't just check the Internet back then. That's when most idents were CGI and not live action, so yeah, it would've been criticised for being different. Of course nowadays, the balloons aren't panned nearly as much as their successor.

Why not wind everything back 20 years to 1993, call the news service ITN, and give the channel back all the regional names.

No. That would all be meaninglessly retro: like removing the numeral from your main channel and thinking it will make the slightest bit of difference. Shocked

ha ha could even bring back a few shows like Surprise Surprise, and maybe even catchphrase Laughing

I was meaning this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEPcTaX4jCk

I don't mind the current theme but the old one was more "this is itv news"
