Still, why on earth would they design, code and test a timer, when someone coming in at 6am and altering a configuration file / database entry / uploading a redirection script is much cheaper, easier and less likely to break?

To be fair, there are plenty of content management programs that can be set up to update at a certain time. It's nit unthinkable.

I work in web development and all this talk of timers is just making me laugh Laughing , I am sure what he meant was an automated deployment server which will upload the files come the right time and depending on the extent of the changes, it could simply be a reskin in which case it will have been coded in a way that the site will use existing/replace assets.

This is a video of how ITV will launch their new site.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but an ITV Media Planner yesterday tweeted: "4 days till NYE, 9 days till snowboarding and 18 days till one seriously mega ITV rebrand! #thingstolookforwardtonowtheworldhasntended"

Seemingly confirming the launch as Tuesday 15th, as previously mentioned.

I'd make that Monday 14th considering it's 4 days to NYE then an extra 2 weeks till the ITV rebrand. It'll be interesting then to see what happens with the football as it looks like the FA Cup 3rd Round games will be under the old branding, but the replays under the new.

I agree that ITV's 'digital' channels are in fairly good shape. The only changes I'd make (programming wise) is move the repeats of Corrie, X-Factor etc back to ITV1 (or ITV) as I feel they could save money that way. Surely making new programming to replace the repeats for ITV2 would be cheaper than the flagship channel. I'd also like ITV plc to try and show more of their Archive programming on ITV3 that they currently do...if possible.

It actually costs them more to repeat Corrie and Emmerdale on ITV1 than it does on ITV2 as they have to pay the actors more in repeat fees, so that's not going to happen - and I doubt they'd get much more on ITV1 than they do on ITV2 anyway. A decent fixed slot for the evening repeats would be good though - now BBC3 have EastEnders at 10.30pm trying to fix Corrie to 11pm on ITV2 would make even more sense.

That's interesting, I was not aware of that. You learn something new each day. A fixed 11pm showing does sound a good idea.

I've just discovered that all the ITV channels are to have new idents.

Exactly when in January will that be? If it's in the middle of January I'd like to set my DVD recorder to record as many idents as I can from each ITV channel.

In some ways it's a blessing in disguise that ITV3 hasn't done Christmas idents, as I could thus get regular ITV3 idents today.

We are unsure of the date, but it could be around the 15th jan when some more details are due out?

Not just that . . . in order to deliberately mess up your channel codes: they're removing the 1 from ITV1.

It will just be called ITV. Shocked

It'll still be I1. When I first introduced it in 1986, I meant it to refer to any ITV regional franchise when it tended to be called by the local name rather than ITV, i.e. TSW, TVS, HTV, Central, Granada etc. Even now the ITV1 brand is only used in England and Wales; Scotland uses the STV brand, but as far as my coding scheme goes, it's still the same channel referred to by the code I1 (ITV1, STV, UTV).

Let's not get too involved in my channel codes here, we don't want to derail this thread.

I don't want to go off topic either- but just out of interest Tumble Tower, what do you use your channel codes for? Is it just for when you write about different channels or do they have another purpose?

Sorry- I'm not exactly a veteran of these forums, I assume I'm not supposed to ask that. Is it like Fight Club? Laughing

If only you were a member of an active online television community where such things were discussed, you may have found out sooner.
