It'll be great if ITV can do it all in one day - one of my pet hates is relaunches in stages, though I think for some they'll have to wait a little bit longer for new regional news studios, but will presumably get a relit studio in the interim.

Given that the new ITV news look is allegedly going to be blue, for those regions that are going to make-do with with relit sets in the interim it'll mean that the current sets have come full circle! After all, they were originally lit blue, then relit teal, then relit yellow, and will soon relit back to the original blue again, it seems... Very Happy

Really can't wait to see what they've come up with for the news and regional news, the latter I don't think they've ever got quite right since they all took on the same look back in the 4 squares era.

I think the squares era was fine - a very strong look linked to the national brand (and channel brand), but still fairly distinct from it. I would say though in most cases the quickly redressed regional studios looked better than the generic studios bought in a few months later - though I've never really been a fan of the regional studio, mainly as I'm not really a fan of sofa based studios.

Couldn't agree more with you, it's a shame we never got to see the Squares look in true 16:9, it all looked polished and clean. From an ident/logo point of view I prefer the 2006 look, but as it had no logo or design attached to it, where as we had the squares and that made the News branding look strong, something that didn't happen in 2006, the design was missing something.

T be fair though, Granada Reports last set was just nasty, looked dead cheap. I always thought the yellow era of the Granada Reports set would have looked great in the ITV Theme.

Indeed, there was nothing at all wrong with the 2001 look, it was stupid they rebranded so close before the 2004 relaunch, everything was right with the 2001 look and then the 2003 look just made it look tacky and cheap, it was good it was short lived, shame the set wasn't.

Excited for launch, it's what - 2 weeks now?

It's going to be a crazy day for ITV with new identities hitting the 4 channels, major rebranding of ITV News, updating the entire website to feature the new logos/font... So much work to pull it off without a hitch, simultaneously!

I'm not sure that's how these things work, there won't be lots of staff hurriedly loading idents and graphics onto computers on the big day.

No but I would assume it will still be a big day of making sure all the new stuff works, particularly when it comes to the news.

That was a tad flippant.

I don't think I was ever implying would be like that, just that it's not going to be as simple as flicking a switch ...

The website will be relaunched on a timer, it would be uploaded but not live then, at say..6am it will put the new site online. The idents will be similar, loaded into the playout system for each channel but not programmed to any buttons, then just before 6 they'd switch the old idents for the new ones and that would be them.

Then the ITV News relaunch will have been set up weeks before for rehearsals.

Do you have any idea how websites function? Why would they code a timer, when they can simply get someone from the web development team to dump all of the new branding (which will most probably simply be new images with identical file names) onto the FTP to overwrite the old images? And I wouldn't expect the site to change instantly - most probably the branding will be changed over the course of a day or so.

I understood it would be a totally new design, rather than new logos, which would be where the timer would come in.
