I'm not sure how the numerics will work but I've no worries about the news logo - numerous ways it could work, and afrer all the 2004 logo above the blocks was just the text, though not as stylish - while it could be they just do something like 1999 and shrink the ITV part of the logo if it doesn't really work for them (I love the new logo but I'd kind of like them to do that and reintroduced the individual programme names on to screen).
For all we know, at this moment in time, they may not be numeric but actual words!
I still can't see how that logo is going to fit in with an ITV News logo.
What are the numbered channel logos going to look like? What font/style will the itv2, 3 and 4 be in?
I do think that this rebrand is much needed though

No surprise there. Nobody else will ever get a chance unless UTV, STV or ITV plc go bust.
Wouldn't it be cheaper for anybody else just to buy up a channel already on Freeview?
The only thing they'd be missing out on would be the EPG prominence but they wouldn't have the costly public service requirements.

A new 'terrestrial' channel wouldn't work in todays landscape, let alone one replacing ITV. The TV market would become very BBC dominated.
And would a new broadcaster be willing to cover everything that ITV does? If a new broadcaster has the money to successfully bid for the Channel 3 license, then they have the money to go it alone, do what they want without all of the PSB obligations and have a marketing onslaught.

Don't the colours on the lettering make up the current colours as used on ITV1,2,3,4 and News?

The only colour thats even close to any of the current channel colours is the yellow for ITV1 & ITV News. There is no lime green, deep red or greeny blue in that logo.

Not furious, but would have preferred another contest,. at least the Border and Wales/West split is to happen. Maybe if Jeremy Hunt was still in the DCMS role then a different decision might have been reached.
DVB Cornwall will be furious.

Why separate the Wales & West license if there's next to no chance of the two parts having separate operators?
An increase in programming commintments sounds good. Perhaps a slight increase in regional programming would be rather optimistic.
