Really like all the different variations of it in the DS article. Quite impressed all round really.

In terms of it adopting the same colours as its surroundings in the new idents, does that mean it will be transparent (like the Sky corporate logo) or am I missing the point?

Green for ITV Sport and 'Royal Blue' for ITV News.

From what I understand, someone at ITV will have the ability to pick the colour of each section, and will pick colours that relate to a particular programme. Ie greens and browns for I'm A Celeb.

Indeed, but digital channels will have set colours.

This sounds a bit too complicated for me and I can see them giving up on the variations after six months.

We have variations on the main ITV1 logo nowadays anyway such as Red and Black for - yep you guessed it - Red or Black, Silver and black for Dancing on Ice, then there have been other variations - so its nothing new.

The people I've seen complaining about this elsewhere generally don't like it because it's not some sort of overstated logo, but I think it suits ITV and the content they put out. The current look is a bit too uptight for ITV in a way.

Exactly right! And this is what I said in the other thread a few weeks ago when it was mentioned that certain staff at ITV hated the new logo. There are a lot of staff at ITV1 that would like to believe it's an upmarket network rather than populist. This leads to such a distorted identity. It's the same as when you go to the head office of Peacocks all the fashion buyers wear designer labels and wouldn't shop at a budget chain if their lives depended on it.

But the way it's described makes it sound like different colours for different programmes will be specifically part of the package, rather than a couple of special logos. I can just see it being like the 2004 look with the idents containing mini-promos - they will use them for a few months before realising it's not worth the effort.

According to the MediaGuardian article there will be at least 30 idents for launch for the main channel.

I don't like the part of the article where it says that ITV will use life situations like loading a washing machine and a dog in a sink.

Agreed. I really hope the idents are more than just a logo slapped on 'stuff happening'.

I think the logo itself could work really well for ITV - it's certainly distinctive, modern and fresh. It'd be a shame if it was let down by some lazy clichéd idents.

Personally I like to see some character from the logo rather than just on top of some footage.
For example I love how they use the current logo in the I'm A Celebrity break bumpers.

It has just come to me after looking at the new logo again....

The curvature and style reminds me of the Ofcom logo!

Ulster Television could just drop the dot from the 'i' and have a new package themselves for nowt!

That's just what I was thinking, It'd make UTV as close to ITV in branding as they were in 2004 when the current logo matched ITV's blue and yellow scheme.

I'm not keen. I think as a logo it's fine but does not suit ITV at all.

ITV stands for lots of things like Sport, News, Dramas and Documentaries. By the looks of the logo it looks as if it's a channel that runs Loose Women all day every day!

I'm a massive fan of the current logo and I think just a revamp of that logo would be a lot more suitable as it still looks fresh, modern and reputable. Removing the box comes to mind.

But this new logo looks very cheap and retro and will probably date faster than the current ITV News look, and that went stale after about 6 months!

Blimey, that looks like a bad case of camera shake or chromatic abberation - I thought my eyes had gone skew-whiff.

Glad it wasn't just me that happened to.

As for my opinion, I like the concept of it and the overall I do like the logo. I'm just not sure it works as a logo for a mainstream TV channel - but I'll reserve overall judgement until the we see who it is executed onscreen. So far all we appear to have seen is a couple of variations of the logo and how it could be used, not how it will be used.

Of interest will also be how they add the other elements, such as the numerals of the other channels and "News", "Sport" and "Studios" etc. Will they be in a similar style, the "standard" font (if the current one is to remain) or all individual?

It could work. Maybe something a bit more like this:

Thinking about how they will be implemented, I still can't to get to grips with ITV News.

Given the description of a dark blue logo, the above is all I could imagine as there would need to be different shades of blue. It just doesn't look right, and yet everyone that's seen the titles thinks they're great.
