No apology on ITV1, just a clean ident into Nightscreen.

Well as I type ITV2 & 3 are still showing their static idents, with ITV3 still squashed into 4:3.

Can't see anything happening on ITV2 anytime soon as it's supposed to be Teleshopping until 05:25.
And ITV3, well who knows?!

I'm off for the night, night folks.

Interesting stuff - amazed that CP Analogue went off and went to the "no incoming programme" apology caption. I thought ITV1 was designed so that if the Southern Transmission Centre at The London Studios/LWT/Kent House/King's Reach Studios was out of action, the Northern Transmission Centre based at Yorkshire in Leeds could run the whole network.

Although I guess that might explain why London DSat stayed up.

How did UTV go down with a black screen for so long? Surely there was somebody at UTV able to cut up an apology card if the incoming network programme disappeared?

Apparently the beginning of GMTV was disrupted this morning.

So that is why, when I woke up at 6:30, flicking through the channels ITV2 still had a static ident.

Green to Magenta...and then audio fuzz and spit on ITV1 Freeview (Meridian).

VT Clock appears Tyne Tees ITV1 then back to film complete with subtitling - fuzzy sound output however.

Tyne Tees ITV1, why would a VT clock with Tyne Tees ITV1 come up, they haven't started playing out movies have they?

They used to do a lot of work (for the whole industry) on signage. The TTTV VT lead clock meant that it was their ingested tape that was being played out of a server, in this case at YTV (sorry former YTV).

They still do through an operation known as Signpost, based in TTTV's Watermark building in Gateshead. Clicky

I may be totally off the ball, but I'm thinking power problems, which would explain why Crystal Palace is totally off air where the other regions have now resumed normal service.

If it was without power and totally off-air... how would it be broadcasting a blue caption?

Perhaps it was something bigger than that which either hadn't been planned for or couldn't be sorted with back up plans. To me it looks more like a problem with distribution rather than playout. There are pictures in some of the screen grabs but they are off-lock, perhaps there were problems with whatever area sends the channels out to satellite, DTT and to CP analogue

I assume that ITV1 still comes from the South Bank... it's moving to Chiswick at some point

The blue caption is generated at the transmitter when the feed disappears, which would make sense if the power cut on the South Bank (assuming they are still played out from there and not Chiswick).

It may not be power problems, it's just a quick explanation as to how the all the channels cut and then taking such a long time to get any form of slide up, especially as ITV2 still seems to be having problems in the form of an incorrectly placed DOG.
