Something interesting I realised today was ITV4's web address.
I like this idea of using subdomains, it's professional. Do you think that we may see the other channels / shows following suit?
itv1.itv.com
itv2.itv.com
itv4.itv.com
citv.itv.com
news.itv.com
emmerdale.itv.com
etc.
It'd be nice, but the general public are idiots. They'd end up putting in things like "www.news.itv.com" - which depending on how the host is setup, may or may not work. Even so, it's hard to explain why or why not the "www" to someone who isn't too computer literate.
From an on-screen point of view- without having the www doesn't really
look
as much like an URL as the current system does- and thus might make it harder to get a point across. Adding the http:// would just make it look messy and annoying.
With regard to the messy page URLs, I suppose they can't really be helped if you want everything controlled through a central content mangement system- I'd imagine by the way its setup now, ITV could change the layout quickly and easily on every page on the website- on the BBC site, they'd have to semi-manually update every page.
Just seen a advert for the new series of Creature Comforts and at the bottom it said
www.itv.com/creaturecomforts Dont know if this has being going on for long but.

That's because the independant company that makes Creature Comforts have control over their own website, so there's nothing that can be done about that.

Nah - it's just a badly-written content management system. Loads of CMSes use pretty URLs.
Dont know if this has been posted before but there is a new ITV Local website.. itvLocal.tv But when you open up the player window on the bottom left there is an ITV logo i've not seen before..is this perhaps one of the new designs?

Notice that Creature Comforts is to be sponsored by British Gas, who alot of people mistakenly credit the original adverts too!

I think you can CMS's these days which do nice URLS, but as yet I haven't used one.
