Were YTV the only station to adapt the 1989 corporate IT* logo so that the regional logo (chevron) appeared at the end ? And how long after it was introduced did they make that change ?
Apparently Tyne Tees made the ident run backwards occasionally (i.e. ending with the Tyne Tees logo).
They did; it annoys me that I lost the tape of it to be honest, as it never seems to have been picked up on the net anywhere.
Basically it had shots of the programmes TTTV made for the network at the time (quiz shows, Gilbert, Cookson, other kids stuff, Highway IIRC), scrolling right-to-left in the area where the ITV imagery would normally be, then at the end this had a kind of morphing effect to show the first couple of seconds of the ITV/TTTV ident with the TTTV logo formed up as it looked at the start, played backwards so we saw it come together rather than fly apart. This was accompanied by an extended version of the ident music, and lasted approx 20 seconds. I don't recall whether or not it started with a fully-formed ITV logo; I suspect not.
It was a kind of promo-cum-ident hybrid thing, quite clever actually, and would often be used before the news with voiceover, or before a locally-produced network programme on the network. TTTV showed it in the summer of 1990, during which time the full version of the ITV ident was very rarely shown.
I see on the front page of TV Forum is the first ITV logo from the 1980s, though I'm not sure this was ever a corporate logo. Aside from Central, I don't think any other ITV company actually used it in an ident...
It wasn't a 'corporate logo' as such because there was no single company called ITV. it was used quite a bit though; whenever ITV needed to be refered to as an entity on a natinal basis: trails and slides on Channel 4, newspaper adverts, promos such as: http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/itv/itvnational/idents/itvpromo1988.rm and of course Channel 4 Schools programmes used it for years after ITV ditched it.
There was an ITV logo used before that, the one top left here: http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/itv.html there was a matching 'ILR' logo for radio
I'm one of those "single-brand is best" people, and to me, the revamp looks pretty fresh and exciting, however it's only when I see old regional stuff on the aforementioned site, that I realise how much I appreciated individuality.
I know it's a contradiction pretty much there, but this was a masterpiece...

Agreed! When I first started coming down here pre-move, it was always refreshing to see that onscreen instead of YTV's (rather boring by then) spinning chevron!
I'd be surprised if we see changes at 5.30am for the news - isn't the programme made by the overnight crew therefore any graphics being loaded or whatever would be done in the morning before the mid-morning update?

TV Ark's ITV header also has an earlier logo which I've never seen used anywhere! That logo yesterday was taken from a ITV promotion slide showing on C4 in 1986.

From looking at TV Ark's ITV1 section, there's actually 20 variants of the current ITV1 idents in use. People say they are boring but there are 20 versions!
Well yeah, technically! But only really five! Anyone know their official names out of interest?

I would strongly believe that was the logo that the IBA used for ITV, certainately until about 1988 or so, then the blocky ITV logo started to become more of an official logo, albeit it never was. As said it was only used on Channel 4 for cross-promotion and schools, where as on ITV it was used for some Network promotions, and the 'Just The Way You Are...' promotions that were used for sometime during 1988 and 1989.

Yes, I think right back to the 70's. It was used in their literature and on the engineering announcements programmes

I saw a big ITV2 billboard today advertising some show (Supernatural I think) looked really good, it seems ITV are pushing the advertising of their digital channels up a notch. And is it just me? Or can nobody else escape the ads advertising Northern Lights on ITV1, it's so annoying, every bus stop, every phone box I see. Best of Friends, Best of Enemies.
I haven't seen any!
Also, they're probably not but are these billboards up in Scotland or NI?
In Wales does it just say ITV1 or ITV1 Wales?
I would imagine it would say ITV1. Here in Wales the only time we get ITV1 Wales on trailers is for regional programmes.
Nothing was mentioned on Wales Tonight about changes on Monday so im not expecting big changes on the local news especially as they only revamped 2 months ago.
Well now I do wonder why they locally brand the regional promos on HTV, when they do not for England -- perhaps it is less pressing in Wales to hide the quality of some of the regional output behind the ITV1 logo.
Before 2002 of course all trails in Wales were on ITV1, before that ITV, and before that HTV. SMG/UTV also don't distinguish between network and local promos, so it is odd that whoever work together to make the Wales promos do.
It's not as if they are promoting a strong brand, have you ever heard the station called ITV1 Wales? They don't even call it that on the local news most of the time.
I assume they do it because the channel is called ITV1 Wales and the idents say ITV1 Wales. They probabaly dont do it for the networked programme trails as they take the same ones the rest of ITV Network do and cant be arsed changing the last bit to say "on ITV1 Wales"
To me the station is HTV Cymru Wales and always will be. I only call it ITV1 Wales on here!
I've always called the station HTV along with the majority of Wales!
I think the ITV1 name is beginning to catch on and will probably take a generation to filter through where the youngsters will think we are all odd for calling tv stations by their old names! lol
First glimspe of regional news studios - during GMTV ?
Well I cant speak for other regions but in the past when HTV/ ITV Wales have relaunched they dont usually do it for the GMTV bulletins, probabaly because they are broadcast by GMTV not ITV.
I don't think i'll get up that early on Monday morning to see the new news!
Previously when HTV News has relauched it has either coincidently relaunched alongside ITN news or just by itself.
There has never been a network-wide news rebrand in the past. Some studios have only just recieved the first wave of the current/only network-wide news branding.
So this will be the first time that the ITV national and regional news has relaunched with ONE coherent brand.
Therefore, I reckon the new studios will all be seen from GMTV onwards.
