The new look for ITV1 idents & presentation and ITV 4 should be Nov 1.

I very much doubt that. Much more likely that ITV4 will launch with new presentation on November 1st and the rest of the network in the new year.

That's what I've understood will happen. Well, at the moment, not even ITV4's presentation is ready, so it's doubtful the whole family of channels will rebrand at once.

Yes, but then what will be displayed at the end of programmes on the EPG when cross promoting across ITV1, 2, 3 and 4, if 1, 2 and 3 are all using the old logo.

The ITV4 logo would look ridiculously misplaced. Not to mention the irregularities in having three channels (remotely) consistent and then just one, random channel with random pres?

I imagine it would look like this...

The first pic can get away with it I think, but there would be a problem with the second image. I suspect they just wouldn't cross-promote, it would only be for a few months.

I agree Lee S, that's the way I imagined they would manage to fudge the initial differences. It doesn't look TOO out of place as an interim measure.

On BBC Three you are right. The channel it later merged with, BBC Choice was on air at the time, .

No merger, BBC Choice became BBC3

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't every old region have it's own unique symbol? It didn't just say 'Granada' or ' Yorkshire' or 'Central', there was the Granada 'G' arrow, the Yorkshire chevron, etc. Isn't that what's missing now from ITV? In fact, are there any channels that use a symbol rather than just lettering at the moment? Channel 4's bunch of channels I suppose...

There are a few, but not that many these days, such are design trends.

Those that I can think of off the top of my head... Sky Travel (swirl), Disney Channels (Mickey ears), Hallmark (crown), Discovery (globe), FX (Fox searchlights), Paramount Comedy (mountain).

Don't think any can be recognised just by their symbol though!

I guess ITV kind of have a simple with the 4 squares!

ITV's squares are quite recognisable I suppose, but are they going to disappear with the new rebrand?

why can't there go back to the 1989 title (somethihng like it)

at least then it had the local name and some times it had the local flag in the coner

Because they want to be seen as one channel, not a collection of channels.

It makes sense for a multichannel world, you look out for ITV1 rather than Carlton or Granada or Yorkshire.

Something interesting I realised today was ITV4's web address.

itv4.itv.com

I like this idea of using subdomains, it's professional. Do you think that we may see the other channels / shows following suit?

itv1.itv.com
itv2.itv.com
itv4.itv.com
citv.itv.com
news.itv.com
emmerdale.itv.com
etc.

I've noticed they've done this with Afterlife too (afterlife.itv.com), but not Vincent (still itv.com/vincent). Why can't they be consistent?

It's easy to set up a redirect from itv.com/[url] to [url].itv.com

Even if they don't, I wish the bloody URL would stay the same. Why itv.com/coronationstreet has to redirect to itv.com/page.asp?partid=91 is really beyond me. Rolling Eyes

Also the ITV4 website uses JSP instead of the crap ITV currently uses (ASP, I think), so hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

I hope they rebuild the entire network of ITV Online, it's long overdue and trailing far behind BBC's offerings.

A good system would be to have a structured system and then redirects.

eg www.itv.com/coronationstreet redirects to itv1.itv.com/programmes/coronationstreet .

Then use this structure for any program on any of the four channels.

What are everybody's views on the ITV Online current state?
