Personally, from what I've seen, I rather like the new look to all the channels. I've never really been keen on the yellow / blue stylings, and the ITV1 logo as they are currently, but this looks to inject a bit of passion into the whole set of channels. They reminded me at first glance of Ned 1 and Ned 2 (even Ned 3 now), and indeed, you can see the comparisons in the post above. Overall, I'm very impressed with it, and can't wait to see them all on-screen. What bugs me is this though... if BBC Broadcast (as was, now of course Red Bee), can create these for a rival channel, why can it not create something even better for the BBC, rather than the current dross they show (as per BBC One).

Basically, its because the then BBC One controller, asked Lambie-Nairn to replace the globe with dancers. BBC One is ditching the dancers soon, RedBee may be asked to do the new look, or Lambie-Nairn, or even someone else, but its down to what the channel controller asks for, and from who...

Interestingly this little snippet was sent out as part of the overnight cues and cuts for Sky News Radio this morning:

"Name: ITV
Date: 10-01-2006.
Time: 00:39

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ITV's getting a new look.
The logos have been dreamt up by the Saatchi's.

The relaunch hits our screens on January the 16th.

Total Running Time: 00:07 secs"

Oh, I know all that, but I just think it's amazing that one part of an organisation can come up with dross like the dancers, and the same part can come up with (what appear to be) some excellent idents for a rival network. I'm surprised the dancers even got off the drawing board, but that's the previous controllers fault for you. Meh.

Guess I'll have to see it full motion. Based on the stills, I'm not keen on the look, especially itv1.

At a glance, the best of this bunch looks to be itv3, followed by itv2 which is quite lively looking; although I'll have to see it in action; I may think better of the whole sets once I've done so.

Why, when I look at the ITV1 screenshots do I think about a total rip-off the first set of 'lifestyle' idents that Channel Five had when they became 'five'?

The dancers were the work of Lambie-Nairn. the ITV idents are the work of Red Bee (formerly BBC Broadcast). They're not the same company, or even part of the same organisation.

How on earth can you have come up with Lambie-Nairn and Red Bee are different part of the same organisation? I think L-N did start off working for the BBC years ago but it's been a separate company for years.

I reckon the tree-hugging ident is to show how people love nature..

On another note, today's Metro covers the rebrand on page 3, with the balding man as a big main picture...

The headline is:

The £3m way to get you to watch ITV1...

...show you a naked, bald man in a towel

I think the ITV1 idents look very european. The channels in Benelux in particular are very arty and peoply and these seem to be following suit. I look forward to seeing them in action.

I was thinking the same thing.

ITV Vs. NOS* Razz

*NOS=Dutch public broadcaster

An even scarier example of similarity between ITV1 and Nederland Een is:

I believe that you all should be happy with the new look, it's no doubt an improvement of the current.

I can't help but thinkning but when CiTV launches as a sepaerate channel in a few weeks time, does this mean that in the run up ITVplc will take FULL control of GMTV?

At this present moment in time GMTV has a spin-off channel - GMTV2 which shows 95% children's programmes including pre-school and imported animation mainly between 7am to 925 (Monday to Friday) 6am to 925 (Saturday - and they are seperate programmes to those shown on GMTV1) and between 6 and about 825 (Sunday). But when ITV launches the spin-off CiTV channel then it will be creating competiton effectively against itself!!!!!

Does anyone know what will happen to GMTV2 when the new CiTV spin-off is created? Will The Scott Chisholm Show (as part of the old ITV NC) replace children's programmes on GMTV2?

ITV will never take full control of GMTV and hopefully within the next 7 years of broadcasting gmtv can own themselves. ITV only have 75% control of gmtv for 7 years.
