I'm liking what I have seen so far.

They ITV1 idents seem reminiscent of five's where you could easily add to the set throughout the year. Not sure how they would include Soapstar Superstar and X-Factor idents into this set mind!

I think they might even ditch the idea of promotional idents like that. From the sound of the MediaGuardian article, it seems like they are going to reduce the amount of big campaigns which they put on.

Special stings might be used perhaps, but I don't feel that those idents, at least the style they have used before, will be in-keeping with the new image they are trying to give to the channel. The Soapstar Superstar idents in particular were incredibly tacky! If they are trying to attract a new audience to ITV, those kind of idents are just going to turn people away again. In my opinion, they just reinforced the idea that ITV was the home of trash TV.

I might be completely wrong, but I hope I'm not!

Why no yellow block to the right of the 1? All the other channel idents have their block, but 1 apparently doesn't.

I read in one of these articles that the logo opens up at the start of each ident, so maybe it'll start as a fully formed logo and open up like this...

I suppose in marketing speak that's to make the channel feel "inclusive".

Though marketing speak aside, I think it's quite a nice idea. This is looking promising.

ITV2 reminds me of The Hits. Very nice! Smile

God they talk some **** don't they! They claim "nobody" recognises the ITV branding but I know from discussions here that even if people don't like them, the four square motiv is highly recognisable.

That's not the point though is it.... branding is more than just recognition, it provides brand values. People will recognise the denotation of the current branding (blue and yellow boxes), but what values do they think of when they see them... what are the connotations behind it?

It's like the big change in perception that BBC2 had amongst viewers when they brought in the '2' logo... it totally changed what people thought of the channel without actually changing the programming

The new idents don't inspire me with confidence (though let's see how they appear on screen). The ITV4 set is very dull - and the ITV1 set particularly looks quite boring. I think ITV3 losing it's cube is also a mistake.

Are you joking, ITV3's current look is piss-poor

It is rather nice. My only gripe though is that the logo itself gets a bit lost being the same colour as much of the background.
