That would look much better if they got rid of the blue background on the logo, and changed the colour of "TV" to black. They wouldn't need to get rid of the logo completely but it would suit the graphics better.

Wouldn't look that bad actually.

(Sorry about slight sharpness, compression a bit crap)

EDIT: Martin's quicker Smile

Actually I quite like the yellow UTV logo, it would look quite good, did anyone notice the UTV logo on the promo, they used the flat version.

The problem is ITV's name

ITV is due to unveil the results of a rebranding exercise later today, with new logos and channel idents for all four ITV channels. What will be interesting is to see if the new branding says anything about ITV that the rest of us recognise. The danger of letting marketeers control the branding of a channel is that it's not unknown for them to create a brand that doesn't reflect what the channel is really about.

On the other hand, to be fair to the marketeers, when BBC1 was rebranded with its current logos of dancers, acrobats, rugby players and the rest, I thought it more accurately reflected the warmth of the channel when compared to the rather sterile revolving globe that went before.

The truth is that rebranding a channel is not easy. One issue the ITV marketeers must have faced is the current image of ITV. Through its branding it desperately needs to create a more upmarket and younger image for its channels at a time when the main ITV channel is increasingly becoming the opposite.

I suspect the biggest problem they have had to grapple with are the letters ITV themselves. They so represent a time and a type of programming that is past - brash and down-market - that you wonder whether anyone considered changing the name altogether. When I was director of programmes at LWT, I suggested that we should change the name to Three. Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Erm, the dancers replaced the balloon, not the "rather sterile revolving globe"...

Hello LONDONER !,

Confused: What are UTV playing at then, Who gives them the authority to use the new look before ITV have even unveiled this to the public ?.

They don't want to use the same generic look as the rest of the network but as soon as something new comes along they are there using it & sticking their Name on it really annoys me.

Just spoils it for not only the company of ITV but Viewers as well.

Wonder if there going to be as quick to use the Idents as well ?.

Well UTV has its own logo, its own brand, and so only those in Northern Ireland will see it, so it isn't spoiling anything for anyone.

All the regions have been sent the kit for the new look I believe, if they can't afford to produce Old and New style trailers, where is the harm...

More on the rebrand from Maggie Brown in Media Guardian - who seems to think the celeb idents are still in use...

An alternative mock UTV logo, in a similar vein to the new look.

hello michaelgrantchapman1 !,

utv are a fully paid up member of the itv network - and as they no doubt paid for the itv network commisioned rebrand, they're more than entitled to implement it.

why would the wishes of itv plc, a rival media company be of any concern to utv? although i doubt very much itv plc care at all.
