I don't understand. Why would the rest of ITV rebrand after ITV4 launches? Surely it would make sense to have the whole rebrand to coincide with the launch of ITV4, so then it actually looks like it's part of ITV's 'family of channels'. Cool Confused

Well that would be the most logical thing to do, like last year when ITV3 launched on the same day as a new set of presentation was launched.

yes and ITV3 was a launch and a half wasn't it. god they went to town on it's launch night.

It was a quiet affair but then again ITV3 is the fastest ever growing digital channel so they must have done something right.

im not talking about how big the launch night of ITV3 was, im talking about the fact ITV3 launched on the same day a new look for ITV1 and ITV2 was launched. The same thing could happen this year with ITV4 being launched on November 1st.

I dont think there is enough time to refresh the look of 5 channels in the time its been since BBC Broadcast (former) were given the task of rebranding ITV as a whole.

I think they would of worked on the corporate logo and branding initially, and then work on channel logos and themes, then start on ITV4's look, before turning to do the other 4 channels.

People seem to forget ITV2 had the split "itv" logo well before ITV1, so it wouldn't surprise me too much. This is ITV after all!

Saying that, the BBC boxes were phased in on BBC1-4 over a period of time!

I think (well certain actually) I'm in the minority here but I think the Blue/Yellow four squares look has on the whole worked well for ITV, though I'm not a huge fan of the current incarnation.

I think it's highly recognisable, and when you see the four squares you know it's ITV!

As for the news - won't be too difficult to update, they'll just need new graphics for the final part of the titles and the astons, plus probably a new CSO background.

Though talking of the news, it would make sense to update the look when Mark Austin takes over from Trevor McDonald, which is supposed to be sometime before Christmas!

Is it definate that the news is relaunching? They only had a new look last year. And many regions have only recently had new sets, cant see them changing them again.

No and I doubt it will, it'll just be a slight change to incorporate the new itv logo.
As you say the news only relaunched last year, most news looks last about 5 years.

People are getting carried away and when the new ITV idents to relaunch in 2006 they will have got so worked up they will be disappointed (but that is the TV Forum way every time)

As far as I know, and as Martin confidently says, ITV News is being worked on and I think quite a lot is being put into it. But it's far too early to speculate on what exactly is happening.

The set will use new CSO backings, and the titles will change, the music will probably stay, just the regional and national titles will be replaced.

Anything involving the 4 squares, or the blue and yellow colour scheme will change.

The rebrand will not take place till the new year and as Martin says everything is up for grabs.
Goodbye the four squares and the yellow and blue - which will remain as ITV plc corporate colours.

They certainly did . . .

How many of us were expecting to see ITV3's launch preceded by an on-screen prelaunch countdown?

I guess ITV4 is likely to also get an on-screen pre-launch countdown on it's launch night in few weeks time . . .

oh i agree there. the 4 squares work in the same sense that the lack of the word renault on their cards does. it's such a strong brand.

Even on Scottish with the 4 blue boxes it works brilliantly.

I'd love to see a nationwide flexable brand that can be used by all the regions and them use their regional names. But I'd also like pigs to fly.

Do you have confirmed info about the new ITV idents launching in 2006?

Also, you say the news will keep the same titles but just change logo slightly, so are you saying you think the four squares will remain?

And are you also saying that you think the regional identities will stay the same, with the four squares, in the blue and yellow that they have promised to drop?

Nothing has ever said that ITV News will change. There's nothing to stop ITV News still using blue and yellow, I mean there arn't that many colours to choose from!

I don't think the 4 squares will remain, but I do think that most of the current look will remain just slightly altered

How many news revamps have been an afterthought on the back of some channels receiving a new ident, and how many have been a seperate big affair in its own right?

I disagree. For ITV, this isn't just a refresh. This is a complete revamp. I would understand your logic if the blue and yellow was staying with the new logos, but it isn't.

Therefore, and also considering Martin's words below, the news will be changing, albeit not radically, but we can anticipate new titles and of course the end of anything remotely blue / yellow or the four squares.

He is right, the CSO is easy to change, the music is fine, so the titles will just need changing for national and regional news to ensure it fits in with the new corporate brand - a brand that doesn't include the blue/yellow.

Well, with the news I think any changes will be on a similar scale to when the BBC changed their logo in the nineties (or C5 changed to five a few years back!).

It won't be a whole scale revamp like we had when C4 changed it's look earlier this year!

anyone fancy having a go at designing what Scottish TV may look like as I doubt they'll be able to ignore this presentation change, since we still have the celeb idents up here in bonnie Scotland!
