I think BBC and Channel 4 idents tend to be about 30 seconds. So the ITV idents are definately shorter.

I think as standard they are upwards of a minute long, but generally not broadcast any longer than neccesary.

When C4 relaunched they'd air their idents for a good 45 seconds with the build up to the 4 forming - but now they are generally very short.

I just hope they are no where near as bad as ITV4's package. Their idents are awful and the general presentation is quite boring.

I think ITV1 at least are mad to get rid of the four square motiv - which has served them very well and is highly recognisable as the ITV1 logo.

I fully agree. At least the four-squares ARE a logo and the current presentation is alot better than they have done for years.

Now we are to get more psychologically-inspired DRIVEL about emotions that will be about as interesting as that "arty" un-made bed in the Tate gallery.

GET REAL marketing people! If you can't do it anymore - then get out of the game! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil This sort of CLAP TRAP from Red Bee will be even worse than the Z-List "Celeb-Idents" we had to suffer for 2 years. Do ITV never, ever learn?

ITV have a recognisable brand at the moment, and they want to flush it away (at great expense) for something that sounds as though it was sold to them over a club sandwich one lunchtime (and probably thought up in even less time than it took to make the sandwich).

If ITV4's presentation is anything to go by, then ITV1/2/3 will be as bad, boring and dated after the lunchtime of the day in which it is introduced! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

The 20-second idents focus on emotions viewers might feel, such as ecstasy.

Sounds like a recipe for bu!!sh*t.

It does sound a bit arty farty, but thats what we come to expect from TV ident designers thesedays.

Considering everybody on here seems to hate the current look (bland, boring, cheap and nasty etc etc), I'm sure TV Forum will love the new designs, plus with them being designed by the BBC (as was) they will have to like them

I think the downfall of the current logo, is that it didn't have brand unity. It appeared in different forms which all got a little confusing, if not a little messy. At least the new look will be much more consistant, maybe we should wait until it actually appears. I bet the new idents will be less boring than the current ITV1 idents.Rolling Eyes

No it didn't, it was basically the same logo all the time. The fact the blue bit looked a bit 3D in certain applications or was bevelled etc was just a bit of variety

I personally think the current idents, plus the whole presentation package is the best they've had since they dropped the regions. The whole idea about quote "Instead, like the BBC's digital stations, the channels will be given specific onscreen identities which reflect their individual personalities" makes it sound like they will not be anything at all similar between the stations which really will wind people up on here

And this quote "One source said of Red Bee's work: "The idents are quite cryptic, about 20 seconds long and quite abstract. But they're stylish and show the quality and range of programming." just sounds like it should be filed away in the folder marked b*llocks, along with any explanation about the BBC's dancers!

Emotional rebranding for ITV

In 1998 ITV developed a heart logo, the first time that the network's 14 regions had used one consistent onscreen brand.

Sorry to take this off topic & be picky but technically they didn't all have a constant onscreen brand, the three Carlton regions had there own style, Scottish & Grampian relaunched their own style in 2002 & UTV never bother (2002 was the closest they ever got). LWT also edited theirs after 3-6 months which leaves only 8 that kept it throughout

End of Rant

(and some of what I mentioned there is probably wrong Wink )

I'm sure someone out there is tired of hearing me say it but...

I think ITV have missed a trick by not going down the route of 7 Network Australia's style of presentation. Bad or awful, the yellow and blue thing was heading the right way in terms of branding. It was badly done but there is/was so much potential for building a recognisable image.

True whenever I see any logo that contains several squares (I'm sure I've seen an ad on the London Underground) I'm always reminded of ITV even in a case (as mentioned above) which had nothing to do with ITV. Surely they could have kept the 4 boxes, done a diffrent colour scheme & font, afterall it worked with the BBC when they changed from /B/B/C/ to |B|B|C|

Now I don't want to turn this thread into a "revival of the regional names" or anything like that it's just something I read on a NON TV related forum (and no it wasn't Metropol)....

According to a posting on that particular forum somebody said the reason the other channels rnew idents have been delayed is because they have realised that the dissaperance of the regional names was a mistake & they were working on idents that had the regional names in them Laughing

Absolute nonsense!! The rebrand of the other three channels was always taking place after the ITV4 launch.

Thought it was a load of b*ll*cks just wanted someone to confirm that Very Happy

I know what they could do!

Find any hearts with just an ITV or ITV1 logo and edit it! Or at least use that after they've shown the emotions bit.
