ITV Network Rebrand

Due to the absence of a general ITV rebrand thread I thought it best to start one.

I noticed this today: on the ITV4 website, the number part of the logo is black with a white number. Yet on the Freeview website it is inverted.

So we have a variation here with the logos. They can be white number on black background or black number on white background. Or perhaps it is transparent.

According to Whataday the colours for the channel logos are:

ITV1 - yellow
ITV2 - red
ITV3 - blue
ITV4 - green

He also says that "the numbers have no curves, they're just straight lines", which also figures, when you think about what the ITV4 logo looks like. I think 2 and 3 will be the most interesting to see.

This all sounds about correct, and also blows out those mocks that were posted on DigitalSpy

No news about the News front, but I would imagine we will see new presentation and maybe a slight set change too. It seems likely that the new corporate colour will be black, as blue seems an odd choice now, doesn't it?

Does anyone have any info or speculation about the rebrand? Hopefully soon MediaGuardian or such source will unveil more details on the rebrand, but until then: what are everybody's views on the new logo, from what we've seen of ITV4?

Perhaps the numeric part changes to black or white depending on what it suits best.

eg if its a dark trailer endcap they use the white number.

Just a thought, but that's assuming the background is transparent.

Sounds about right, unless they simply use a block white/black background with respective inverted number depending on the context.

On top of this, there is the conundrum of the regional identities. How will they adapt with this new form?

Still, its quite difficult. Especially with all the news programmes like "London Tonight" etc. It's quite easy atm to plonk some text above four squares, but this time it will be harder...

Of course the real thing wouldn't use Channel 4's font . I'm sure this would work easily for most regions, but as for the news I'm not sure.

Would they rename ITV [region] News? Or still [Region] News? In which case yet another logo? Hmm, I wonder if ITV is actually going to put this much effort into all of this. Somehow I doubt it. New sets, graphics for regional news etc - too much effort it would seem. But you never know, they may surprise us!

How do you mean? Is this a statement or a guess?

So will it just be ITV | Region and then "News" underneath, or something? Do you actually have inside info ?

guess. i reckon the national news will get a fabalous new look, but the regional news will look like its been put together at the last minute, much like how it looks today.

whereas the national news has the itv logo, there is no appearance ofr the itv logo in the regional news programme, apart from text form in ITV Wales News. i guess it'll be the same sort of thing for the new look

Is it definate that the news is relaunching? They only had a new look last year. And many regions have only recently had new sets, cant see them changing them again.

And what date is all this supposed to be happening? November 1st?

November 1 is ITV4, but there's no confirmed date for the rest of ITV.

True actually BUT its not so easy

With the current logo its so simple to adapt, because you just plonk text above the 4 squares. But the squares are going, so now what will they do?

Jez is also right about the sets, it's going to be bad if all the sets look wrong, unless they fork out on new sets for all of the regions. Not to mention new titles, graphics etc etc
