hah, I copied the dog in the wind one from a VHS tape recorded in the Central East area 1993 the other day. I thought the small remix of the 1989 ITV tune that played during it was pretty cool.

I'll dump it somewhere on the Internet when I get the chance

Yes that was a great tune... it'd be great if you could upload that clip.

Ah yes, somebody contacted me (putthetellyon) on YouTube asking about the ITV Weather stings from the 90s - was it you NickyYorks?

The 1989 weather sting is quite frankly rubbish but I can't stop watching it. Wasn't this the year ITV started doing national weather forecasts? Or was it just a revamp thing?

No that wasn't me... and yes, 1989 was when the national ones started. I wonder why they didn't introduce it earlier.

That's the names, I knew his name began with an A but always though it was Andrew. Where did they go afterwards? I remember Alex being on ITV weather longer than Trish Williamson

As far as I know Alex Hill still works at the Met Office but no longer on TV. I've seen him talking on programmes like Storm Stories and Britain's Worst Weather.

He's head of the Met Office in London now, he often pops up on the news or programmes like This Morning or Richard and Judy when the weather is perverse. (when isn't it?)

The Simon Day ones were getting a bit repetative & were quite poor in comparison to those shown above but they were at least better than the EON ones which are the usual marketing gumph of putting images of the family in them to show they are "a family orientated company" Rolling Eyes Also, unfortunately, the great Powergen logo is no longer seen either Sad

In the last few years they've gone through a lot of unrememberable phases, I recall a poor one with a mobile phone ringing

These days a lot of weather sponsorship stings are based 100% on advertising the company rather than a decent weather related sting and the company only being mentioned at the end

The mobile phone one, and a lot of the subsequent campaigns are still on TV Whirl, having all originally been captured by Ashley when he used to run the TV Box website. Ah the good old days of pres sites! *nostalgias*

The ITV National Weather stings used during the 1990s have always fascinated me... I wonder how many versions there are actually are. I know that from around 1993 to 1996, the stings usually featured the PowerGen logo waving about in the wind, or rain falling, or a dog being blown around in the wind (a version also featured a rather scary looking man stamping his feet and shivering. That scared the hell out of me).

You're not the only one to be scared by some of the weather stings, BBCNicky@Yorks, I was too. For the '93-'96 era I was scared **** of the "misty" variant. There may have been some others I was scared of, but I can't quite put them in my head right now. I vaguely remember the sting with the man shivering and rubbing his palms together and stamping his feet, although I knew there was some live action stings. Also, does anyone remember a sting from the '93-'96 era which started off with a bell ringing in the distance, then a short harmonica ditty played followed by the jingle which was played by a whistle and an acoustic guitar? I know this because I heard it on a collection of ITV National Weather jingles (in one MP3) that I downloaded off Jingle Mad a year or two ago.

This is the first title sequence for ITV Weather before the sponsor took precedence (note the powergen reference is limited to a graphic on the summary). Lovely grey maps.

Probably not the best example here with the wobble on the sound.

I notice there is a Laura Greene on these clips too, whatever happened to her?

Of course the other two, Martyn Davies and Sian Lloyd will be with the ITV National Weather forever

And when the sponsor did appear, it wasn't as noticeable as the later ones..

The one's I remember well were the Legal & General ones of LWT, I don't think Thames used them, or if they did, it was breif. Anglia, Border, HTV, Grampian, Central & Yorkshire are the onyl other ones I know of who had the L&G sponsor.

Yes, and what DID happen to Laura Greene?

I think most did, add TVS & TSW to that list and I think HTV, Thames may have done but IIRC as soon as it was announced that Carlton won they dropped anything associated with ITV & although they were for regional weather forecasts I assume it was some special thing from the formation of the ITV Network
