I have been thinking that the quality was poor for the past few days but i just thought it was my Tv or something. It really is terrible, how they can get away with is is beyond me. Especially as Michael Grade was banging on about how he wants to improve ITV. I think that the weather should actually be part of the news with a weather map and presenters in the studio. It would make things a lot smoother!

The original Idea for the ITV plc. Regions was to use the Rear Projection Screen and Plasmas for the weather.

They may as well use the Theatre of News for the weather. It's never made sense to me why they don't.

Isn't it because the weather is sponsored and a sponsored programme has to be shown to be separate from the news?

The regional news manage it within the programme.

Yeah, they could either add a weather sting to the national news or just broadcast it from the studio after the bulletin. Although I suppose it doesn't give much room for rehearsal time but still.

The question is why has it moved in the first place? My understanding was that there was a specific weather studio at ITN, or am I just thinking of the teletext adverts?

As for the theatre of news option, they could always pre record a couple of hours before if needs be, and record it as live. Surely the time slots are known well in advance, rather than them being told to fill for 30 seconds or something.

Not sure if there was a specific studio, I have a feeling they may have done it from a corner of London Tonight studio. As for moving that can only be down to cost.

Indeed that was the case when the National Weather came from LNN, if you have a copy of the 2001 ITV programme It Shouldn't happen to a Weather Presenter this proves it.

I can see ITV's point of moving it to Milbank, but the PQ is just totally crap, you could get better quality from a VHS tape.

Well there was not that much space in the ITN studio but I think there was a small green screen alongside the newsroom (the bit that used to be the background on the national news). Could be muddling up with the fake 'walking on' that the London weather presenters used to do sometimes.

Part of me thinks that the quality is getting worse.

Has anyone asked ITV to try and find out what's going on? Surely they can notice that something isn't right.

You'd have thought that somebody who works at ITV watches the ITV Weather. One benefit from the new set up is that the height is better as a viewer/the camera isn't as close, it's more the sort of height/zoom that the BBC and GMTV use.
